Kids should not be told they 'are not good enough' to play football for a grassroots team! Absolutely terrible. If you have too many players, don't take them. Do not stop children playing football because your ego means its more important the team wins than a child gets to play.

If you’re a grassroots coach please don’t look at this as what you need to be doing with your players.
It’s too slick, there’s too much space, too little chaos, too few decisions and problems to solve, too little challenge and a distinct lack of cues or triggers 🧵

I bang this drum relentlessly, the only reason to rush to 7, 9 and 11 a side versions of the game is coaches ego and ignorance, not the benefit of the kids and what they want!
There in can lie the problem!! I believe we go to too large a format (5v5 instead of 3v3) and it becomes all about winning, pressure, players not getting a game and poor touch line behaviour. Why I ask myself? They are 6 year old children!!!

Setup:
Blue player passes ball to red, who attacks. The red can either turn and attack the line behind him for 1 point, or go past the blue for 3 points. If the blue wins possession he has the same two ways to score.
They swap starting position each time, 2 mins per game.

As a club we faced a lot of challenges this season, including losing 14 players over the summer, but pulled together and finished the season making two finals. An incredible achievement, testament to the work of many great people. Honoured to join their names on this award ⚪️⚫️

Sin bins in lower league ⚽️, where referees are vulnerable and need mechanisms to support them, I get it. There’s a rationale to it.

After taking some time out to reflect over the xmas period the first objective I had was to improve my mental state.
Step 1 was to commit to 20 mins of exercise, 20 mins of journaling and 20 mins of reading every day.
10 days in and I’m feeling huge benefits!
