I'm biased, obvs, but I still don't get why these remain so cheap. You won't find a cheaper modern classic that gives you as much fun in something so usable. Rasping twin cam, superb handling, Pininfarina styling, practical, lovely (albeit creaky) interior. All for 2-3k. Superb.

People = weird. Just took the Sprite to Marlborough to buy ball-ended allen keys and wine (as you do). Nissan Navara guy lets me out at a roundabout, looking very angry, then yells "it stinks" at me from his window when we stopped at the lights. Anyway here's the Sprite y'day.

Well I am absolutely delighted with this. A tad soft of suspension after 160k miles, but superb engine, 50mpg at 80mph, comfortable and everything works apart from the rear windscreen wiper. Assuming it doesn't go bang any time soon (. ), could be the best £750 I've ever spent.

Just been for a spirited hour's drive in this to fully charge up the battery. Just the best fun. If you've never tried a GTV, do so. I don't think they'll ever be worth big money but they'll never be cheaper than they are now. £2-3k for this much fun and those looks? Bargain.

Had my first quote on the belts for the Thema. I won't share the exact details here, but to give you an idea, c.£250-300 for parts (belts and bearings) and "up to 2 days' labour". All basically due to lack of access. Hey ho. It's worth it. (And more quotes to come).

Annoying. In 32 years of driving, and c.450k miles, I've only ever been done for speeding once (no points - did a speed awareness course). Went to the Netherlands for less than 24 hours a couple of weeks ago, drove for 2.5 hours and got nabbed on a motorway. Hey ho. Mea culpa.

Interesting test drive experience this morning. Was pootling along in this beautiful Fiat 124 Coupé. Came round a mild right hander onto a long straight, gently accelerated. and the offside rear wheel fell off. All four nuts and one stud gone. Other studs loose. Fun times.

C.5 yrs ago a couple of disastrous jobs knocked my spannering confidence. A big reason for buying the Sprite is to get it back. You'll laugh at this, but today I replaced a sidelight, adjusted the idle and cleaned the air filters. Baby steps / tons more to do, but it's a start.

In disturbing news, Child #1 did a trial shift waitressing in a v nice Italian restaurant tonight. She got the job. Good pay BUT they also give all staff a meal to take away at the end of their shift. So basically, delicious pizza will now be entering our house 3 times a week.

Having flogged 2 cars + only bought 1 replacement (strict-one out, one-in policy), i needed to fill the spare garage. So I've bought a Mk2 Austin Healey Sprite. Paintwork's awful and it's only just been put back on the road so unproven but should be fun to drive and tinker with.
