Don’t be fooled by what this means: It means don’t buy from Jews. Don’t associate with Jews. Don’t be near Jews. This is antisemitism. This is hate. Call it out for what it is.
Remember to ask yourself this: Why should my Jewish friends, colleagues, neighbours and fellow
To the people of Winnipeg South Centre - thank you for putting your faith in me. I commit, as I have to aspired to do in all aspect of my life, to work hard, listen, build bridges, and approach this important responsibility with the utmost integrity.
I'm excited to announce that I'm entering the race to be the
@liberal_party
candidate in the upcoming by-election in my home community of Winnipeg South Centre. I can't thank everyone enough for their support. For more info about me & the campaign visit –
This morning at
#LIB2023
we’ll pay tribute to my dad. He spoke at the 2014
@liberal_party
convention where he laid out his vision for what it means to be a Liberal. As I begin my campaign in Winnipeg South Centre, he’s never far from our thoughts.
Since taking my seat in the House of Commons a few months ago, I’ve witnessed so much toxicity, negativity, and the use of language that seeks to divide us and create fear. Some of the clips in this video serve to highlight that.
Thrilled to announce I have officially been nominated as the Liberal candidate for Winnipeg South Centre. My commitment to the people of this riding is to continue serving as an honest and hardworking bridge-builder. Please be sure to visit to learn more.
Exciting day at the campaign office! Thank you
@justintrudeau
for stopping by to chat with a few hundred friends. With only 26 days to go, you can feel the momentum in Winnipeg South Centre!
Because of Pierre Pollievre, Jewish MPs are stuck in Ottawa voting for more than 18 straight hours, kept away from celebrating Hanukkah together with family and community. This, after what’s been the hardest few months we’ve experienced as Jews in our lifetime. Shameful.
When I was a young university student, I wrote Prime Minister Chretien a letter, and left my phone number at the bottom. One morning, he called to say hello. It was the start of many years’ worth of conversations. I so value his wisdom and any moment I get to spend with him.
Thank you
@melaniejoly
for the quick visit today. My dad would be thrilled to know that Mel and I were enjoying a bowl of Borscht at his favourite deli,
@Bernsteinsdeli
- and that as always, the soup was served “Baba hot”!
Conservatives falsely claim that there is a direct link between high food prices and the price on pollution.
My Conservative colleagues today understood the inaccuracy of their claims.
Watch my exchange with leading Agricultural and Food Policy experts who debunk this myth.
Sign, sign, everywhere a sign!
Fresh off the printer. If you live in Tuxedo, River Heights, Linden Woods, Fort Garry, Fort Rouge, Crescentwood, Lord Roberts, Riverview, or Osborne Village, please let us know if you’d like a sign ➡️
As a lover of all animals, I am distressed to learn that another shipment of horses has left Winnipeg to be slaughtered for meat overseas.
As an MP, I have the ability to vote on critical issues that can make a difference for all living things.
Today, I stood in the House to announce that next fall, I will introduce a bill banning the export of live horses for slaughter. I invite my colleagues from all parties to work towards its adoption. We promised it, we'll do it!
While at
#LIB2023
this weekend, spent some time with PM
@JustinTrudeau
talking about the upcoming by-election and how we can continue delivering real progress for Winnipeggers and Manitobans.
Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of my Dad’s passing. I am grateful for the opportunity to have honoured him alongside colleagues across party lines in the House of Commons. He is deeply missed.
On the panel there is someone who says Israel killed its own people on Oct 7th, and not Hamas. Academic freedom is sacred. So is the duty to maintain academic integrity. This event, in its current form, does not fulfil that duty.
Please read full statement below.
This past Friday in Ottawa, in the presence of friends and family, I took my oath and was sworn in officially as a Member of Parliament. I am grateful for the opportunity and privilege to serve my home community of Wpg South Centre, and look forward to the important work ahead.
I miss my dad everyday. He was a larger than life figure for me. I miss his smile, wisdom, and goofiness. He prepared me for life in ways nobody else has, or could have. The last year of my own life has been full of immense challenge, opportunity, and learning. It has been
What a week! I’m still taking in the extraordinary privilege it is to represent
Winnipeg South Centre. While there are so many people to thank for their support during the campaign, here’s a few photos. We had a lot of fun and I can’t wait to get to work for our community.
Today I continued the fight to ban the cruel practice of exporting live horses for slaughter. Conservatives oppose our efforts.
They keep telling me nobody in my riding cares about the Bill. The 36,000 names attached to a petition tell a different story.
@WinnipegHumane
I was pleased to ask the Prime Minister a question in the House today. I chose to ask about Orange Shirt Day, and shared a bit about the sad history of residential schools in Winnipeg South Centre.
I voted 🗳️ and you can too!
Polls are now open right across Winnipeg South Centre.

During the Ag committee mtg yesterday, I pointed out that despite the fact that the opposition blames the government for the cost of groceries, Canada’s food prices are lower than the G7 average, and also on par with the U.S., where there is no price on pollution.
Great first day in Ottawa with new colleagues, including a chat with Prime Minister
@JustinTrudeau
. Plus I made it home just in time to celebrate the
@maplesmetschool
students who were in Grade 9 when I started there and graduated today!
I first met Greg when we worked together on the federal election in 2008. As my boss, he was always supportive and easy to get along with. He is an intelligent, humble, and kind person who will bring dignity to the Chamber.
On behalf of many constituents, I presented a petition calling for the swift passage of the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement.
The Conservatives yet again voted against the deal.
Thank you to my constituents who continue to support Ukraine during this awful time.
Thank you to all the delegates this morning at
#LIB2023
for allowing me the chance to stand with you in honour of my father, Jim Carr.
You can watch the video here ➡️
Conservatives were the only party to vote against the Canada-Ukraine Free-Trade Agreement. President Zelensky asked Canada directly to support this deal. Narrow political interests should not overshadow the broader principles of unity and support for our ally Ukraine.
The west has a strong advocate in
@cafreeland
and today she popped into the campaign office to reiterate that. Then we hit the doors to talk about our plan to help families in Winnipeg South Centre. The team is fired up with 18 days to go!

I was asked yesterday to comment on the remarks by a Conservative MP who said they would not only roll back abortion rights in Canada, but same-sex marriage, too. Here is what I had to say in response.
Despite no support from a single Conservative MP, yesterday we passed the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement.
I commented on this and the expectations thousands of Ukrainian-Canadians from my riding have of our government in my question to the Prime Minister.
The news of Vivian Silver’s murder at the hands of Hamas is heartbreaking. Winnipeg, and our global community, has lost a brilliant advocate for peace, and a kind soul. As a friend of Vivian’s family, I am devastated by the magnitude of this loss.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke out in support for the people of Israel while condemning the violent attacks by Hamas and those in support of them.
We have now been voting for over 24 hours, with no end in sight. Simply to satisfy Pierre Pollievre’s ego. I rose to thank everyone working overtime.
The Conservatives responded by shouting at me for the request, while everyone applauded the hard work of these staff members.
Rallies are planned in Canada celebrating attacks on Israel by supporters of Hamas. This is abhorrent. Now is the time more than ever for us to be talking and searching for peaceful resolutions, not creating further division by applauding the callous loss of innocent lives.
Recently I spoke with
@melaniejoly
about the reintroduction of the abortion debate in Parliament by some Conservative MPs and the lack of pushback from Pierre Pollievre.
I am proud to be a member of the Liberal Party, where there’s no lack of clarity: we will always support the
We had a very meaningful discussion between the Prime Minister and Jewish leaders in Winnipeg South Centre today that focused on the intensification of antisemitism in our country and how it is impacts all of us.
Jews in Canada are feeling scared to be who they are. The
This morning I was elected by my colleagues from all parties to serve as the new Chair of the House Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs.
It’s an honour to serve on this committee as we focus on upholding the integrity of our democratic institutions.
Had a great time at Winnipeg Pride today. It was a beautiful day and thousands gathered to celebrate our community. We can’t take our rights for granted.
Thankful for the ability to get my Flu and Covid-19 vaccines today! Ran into my old friendly pal, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Mr. Greg Fergus on the way out, too!
It was great to welcome
@JustinTrudeau
to Wpg this week. Today included a fantastic gathering with local business leaders followed by lots of fun at the iconic Festival du Voyageur. On top of that, the game-changing investment of over $630 million for MB’s health care system.
I had the chance to honour Vivian Silver in the House of Commons today. She dedicated her life to the pursuit of peace, working tirelessly to build bridges between Israelis and Palestinians.
May her memory be a blessing.
MB is in the early stages of making Holocaust education mandatory to ensure that students are taught about the systemic murder of millions of Jews during the Second World War.
As a former principal, I understand how important it is to promote critical thinking in schools.
Had the pleasure of talking music with Steven Page from the Barenaked Ladies, one of my Canadian music idols at the airport on the way back to Ottawa. A legend!
From Canada’s Minister of Defence, following an independent Canadian intelligence review that supports U.S. and other findings that Israel did NOT strike the hospital in Gaza last week and that instead the rocket came from within Gaza itself.
Today, an announcement was made that will reshape health care in Manitoba for decades to come.
This federal investment of $633M will help to recruit more doctors and nurses, support addictions and mental health services, long-term care for seniors, and more.
On January 28th, 1916, after years of courageous actions by women all across Canada, women in MB were granted the right to vote. The first province in Canada to do so.
We should be proud of the progress made but reminded of the work left to do in advancing gender equality.
My Jewish caucus colleagues and I have been working non-stop to support our communities in all ways possible. Here is a joint statement we have put out today.
Today, I hosted an event where the Federal Government announced $10 million to support New Flyer Industries to continue being North America’s leading manufacturer of electric buses. This is a great example of how my Dad’s legacy lives on with the greening of the Prairie economy.
En route to Ottawa and ran into my friend and Canada’s new Minister of Crown-Indigenous relations,
@gary_srp
. Gary is a wonderful person who I’ve had the pleasure of working with in Ottawa over the years. He will be a champion for communities across the country.
Conservatives say the horse bill is just “pandering”. Canadians who advocate for animal welfare should not be demonized.
My constituents have overwhelmingly expressed support for this Bill. The job of an MP is to advocate for their constituents. Thats what I’m doing.
It was an honour to spend the morning of Orange Shirt Day w/ survivors of the Assiniboia Residential School.
I enjoyed a moment with Elder Betty Ross, herself a survivor, who I had the pleasure of working with during my time as a Principal in Seven Oaks School Division.
I’m here with
@SeamusORegan
to talk about Bill C-50.
As we cut emissions and transition to more renewable energy sources, this bill affirms the importance of Canadian energy sector workers. It gives them a seat at the table.
Today marks the one year anniversary of being elected to serve as the Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South Centre.
I am filled with gratitude to serve this community. I have been working diligently to connect with as many constituents as possible over the last 12 months. I
We must be able to live in a world where we can long for peace, while at the same time condemning in the strongest of terms, the rape, kidnapping, and murder of children, women, and the elderly, without needing to insert a “but” at the end of that statement.
Recently I had the opportunity to connect with
@s_guilbeault
, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change.
We’ve cut 13 million cars worth of emissions from our economy since 2019, and we’re just getting started.
Check out our conversation here:
I am horrified at the news that yet again, Canadian Jews have been targeted and are the victims of violent crime. This time, gunshots were fired at a Jewish school in Toronto. We have already seen firebombs thrown at synagogues in Montreal, bomb threats at other Jewish schools in
Yet again, we see Conservative MPs with prominent voices in their caucus and in Parliament trample over the rights of women and minority communities in Canada.
This is from the same Conservative MP who two weeks ago, along with other colleagues, reintroduced the abortion debate
One of the privileges of sitting in the Liberal Caucus is the diversity of our representatives.
Tonight we celebrated Filipino Heritage Month with a crowd from across the country.

(1/2) Next week MPs will vote on an NDP motion that considers a wide-array of issues related to the conflict in the Middle East.
I am sharing the open letter I have written to my constituents that shares my views, rationale, and voting intention related to the motion.
Like thousands of Canadians and people worldwide, we are huge fans of Kim’s Convenience. Ran into lead actor Paul Sun-Hyung Lee at the airport. Before I could even ask, he was recording a personalized message. Great show, even better people.
Happy Louis Riel Day Manitoba! It was great to take in some of the festivities alongside my colleague Dan Vandal today as we celebrated the founder of our beautiful province and the contributions of the Red River Metis.
Wonderful reception at the door tonight in my home neighbourhood of River Heights! The crew and I ended the evening outside of
@EcoleRHSSchool
where I began my career as a teacher in a grade 6 French immersion classroom.
Today, I voted again in support of Bill C-355 ✅ and will continue to at every stage.
This important piece of legislation, introduced by
@TimLouisKitCon
, will put an end to the live export of horses by air for slaughter.
@WinnipegHumane
I was blessed to have a career as an educator. One of the many lessons I took away was the important role that access to healthy food plays in the life of a child.Yesterday, I rose in the House to speak in favour of an establishing a national framework for a school food program.
☎️ 📞 Today
@ylc_jlc
members from across the country joined our Day of Action and before I went out door knocking myself, I was able to say a quick thank you.
Back in North River Heights tonight with
@SeanFraserMP
where it seems like every door I knocked on was someone I knew! And because I grew up here, I know the priorities of our community. Your voices will guide my work in Ottawa as your Member of Parliament.
Thank you so much to everyone for all of the support since my announcement yesterday. I am truly grateful.
The single most important thing anyone can do to help is to register as a Liberal member if you live in Winnipeg South Centre.

Today,
@scottgillingham
and the City of Wpg Council announced $122M from the Federal Government to build more than 3000 housing units over the next 3 years and more than 15,000 units over 10 years. This will increase the supply and affordability of homes for Winnipeggers!
Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who came out over the long weekend. Whether you knocked on doors, made phone calls, or helped put up signs, it’s appreciated!
In the U.S., we saw top educational leaders fail to even qualify a call for the elimination of all Jews from the earth as a breach of their codes of conduct.
Jewish students deserve to feel safe on campus. Here is a letter to Canadian Universities that I was proud to sign.
The opposition often points to a low mortality rate during shipment as how we should judge the export of live horses for slaughter.
When I questioned Dr. Watson, a vet and animal welfare expert, he shared my view that judging an animals welfare by a mortality rate is shameful.
As our
@liberal_party
president,
@Sachitmehra
has worked with MPs from all across the country. Manitoba is proud to call him our own and I’m proud to call him a friend. So happy to have his support.
It was really nice to spend time in the last few days of the session with my colleagues from our Muslim and Jewish caucus.
Even though we disagree on things from time to time, our ability to speak respectfully with one another, along with the love and care we have for one
Over the past couple of weeks, I spoke with
@s_guilbeault
about the ways in which Budget 2024 addresses the climate crisis.
I highlighted that without meaningful climate change policy we will see a negative impact on our relationship with allies through:
