Taking a closer look at the figures, deaths are projected to exceed births from 2029 onwards – i.e., the UK population would be start to decline without net migration.
New ONS population figures project that the UK population will grow by 4.9m between 2022 and 2032 – to 72.5m – driven solely by net migration. Births and deaths over the same period are projected to be 6.8m, cancelling each other out.
