Explicação do Adam Rodman sobre (mais) um artigo sobre IA e Medicina que dá que pensar
There is a lot of buzz about our new paper in Nature Medicine on the effects of LLMs (GPT-4) on physician management reasoning! I had TONS of fun working on this -- but what it MEANS requires some unpacking. A 🧵⬇️

- Diabetes is not necesssarily a risk factor for Pseudomonas - Pseudomonas prevalence in diabetic foot infections is far lower than we realize - Diabetic foot infections that grow Pseudomonas respond to antibiotics without its coverage (only colonization in many cases)
Our latest episode 'A Pseudo-truth?' is live! Producer @gbuonomomed is back to explore whether diabetic foot infections truly are at higher risk for having pseudomonas. #MedTwitter

@DavidLBrownMD @drjohnm @CommunityNotes @AndrewFoy82 @RFRedberg @bogdienache There are a lot of classic thinkers who wrote about truth and falsehood centuries of years ago, such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotles, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Arendt, Orwell, just to name a few. Even the famous "Post-truth Era" by Keyes was written 20y ago. We just live..in an era.

"New Normal"?
Just wrote this for @Sensible__Med. I spent many years as a full time journal editor. My life was absorbed with the publishing world. What I learned was that the legacy journals are dying because of the wide availability of information on the internet. Journals are no longer needed to disseminate content. Blogs like @Sensible__Med are the future. Many of them have more readers than do the legacy journals I’m honored that I could publish my thoughts in @Sensible__Med

@pimenteljm Em relação às restantes (infecciosas, etc.) parece-me menos provável que causas menos prevalentes expliquem variações de EMV - teria de haver uma grande diferença para que uma causa de morte menos prevalente modificasse significativamente a mortalidade total.

Appendicitis: Antibiotics vs Surgery - Complications at 1 year*: 5.4% (atb) vs 8.3% (surg) *low rates of complications? probabily low-risk population - If appendicolith seen, higher complications w/ atb - In abt group --> surgery in 30%...but no surgery in 70%
