This is the hardest story I have ever had to write about a dear colleague who is gone too soon. Legendary journalist and friend

Vatican press office just sent out a “cryptic" alert that “human bone fragments have been found” on the grounds of the Holy See embassy to Italy in central Rome and that Italian authorities were called in to investigate. Very Haloweeny for the Holy See…
Day 2 of Phase II seems eerily quiet. Italians don’t want to risk sparking a second wave it seems. Long lines for cappuccino and newly open services but in Rome everyone is cautious.

I took this photo 1/14/12 the morning after the Costa Concordia crashed into Giglio when the seagulls were gorging on cruise ship food that floated to the surface. RIP all those who lost their lives in this completely avoidable disaster.

People standing one meter apart to go into the grocery store a few at a time. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Italians stand in line at all!

Mayors of Naples and Palermo say they will take the more than 600 migrants/refugees on the Aquarius waiting for docking instructions after Salvini “closed” Italian ports. Nearly half were transferred to Aquarius from Italian naval assets to bring to safety.
How can the Vatican refuse to bless gay marriages because they “are sin”, yet happily make a profit from investing millions in “Rocketman” - a film which celebrates my finding happiness from my marriage to David??

flight from Tripoli, but what about the 90 from the sinking dinghy now on the Italian navy ship? What happens to them?
🚨 Happening now: UNHCR ✈ evacuated 149 vulnerable refugees and asylum-seekers to safety from Libya 🇱🇾 to Italy 🇮🇹.
The evacuees are from Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan and Ethiopia. They include 65 children, 13 of them below a year in age.
