Lifelong Blackwell member Guy Bigwood helped the club navigate the challenges of the wartime years and was passionate about maintaining the traditional and inclusive ethos of the club. His painting hangs in the members' lounge, where he keeps an eye on proceedings at all times.

Frank Pont discusses the tree removal work along the third hole that has allowed us to combine the 3rd and 8th fairways, separated by a series of bunkers. The stunning result also enhances the strategic design of the 8th hole. Well done to Ben and @cdpgolf1

Tree clearance has brought more light and airflow to our fifth green, enhancing the visual appeal of the approach shot. Over time, this will deliver firmer playing conditions, promote finer grass growth, and improve turf health.

We can't wait for the rhododendrons to bloom again, adding further beauty to our 9th hole's pond, undulating green, and restored rear bunker. We'd never advocate their use as a hazard, but they are positioned far enough back to be out of play and help frame the hole's backdrop.

The benches around our clubhouse, generously donated by friends of the club, offer views of the first tee and 18th green, making them a popular spot for members and visitors to watch golf before or after their round.

Behind the final green, looking down the fairway, this is a familiar view for those who’ve just finished their round or are enjoying a halfway stop in our spike bar.

Tree removal in recent years has been a key aspect of the ongoing course improvements led by Ben and his team, under @cdpgolf1's guidance. This process enhances light and airflow across the course, delivering both aesthetic and agronomic advantages.

Bobby Jones visited Blackwell in 1930, just a day after winning the Open at Hoylake. He honoured a match arranged during the 1928 Walker Cup, playing with William Tweddell against Stanley Lunt and Eric Fiddian. This visit came shortly before completing his legendary Grand Slam.

The tee shot on the par 5 8th hole demands thought and strategy, with a ditch and out of bounds running along the left side of the drive. Bold tee shots yield a strong chance for birdie, but bailing out to the right is a common choice—though it leaves a tricky layup.

Early morning light hits our 13th hole, with its steeply pitched left-to-right green. Being below the hole is desirable here, but good luck with that when the pin is tucked to the right, guarded by three bunkers in the front and a ditch to the right.

Morning dew meets our thought-provoking 10th hole where conservative tee shots set up a challenging approach to this well-guarded green, while a bold, aggressive drive rewards you with a clearer path to the flag. Precision or power—your choice.

Our blind 7th hole plays over the crest of a hill, where a small green is protected by a hidden bunker short right and a new runoff area to the left. Take note of the pin location on the 5th green to decide which side of the fairway to favour with your tee shot.

The right side of our long par-5 12th hole is protected by a series of shallow, narrow, yet strategically placed and awkward bunkers, which were once a single hazard believed to be the longest bunker in the country.
