If you suffer with BDD, there may be many ways that your BDD occupies your time. Often ‘safety behaviours’ may in fact fuel body image issues which makes the solutions part of the problem. If you notice yourself or a loved one carrying out these behaviours, please seek support💙
BDD is a distressing psychological condition, where a person becomes very pre-occupied with one or more features in their physical appearance.

The definition of vanity is ‘excessive pride in or admiration of one's own appearance or achievements.’ Sadly, this is the opposite to BDD. The safety behaviours associated with BDD may appear vain, but the reality is, people with BDD are extremely self-critical.

We don’t have the tech to ‘prove’ that BDD causes distortion but we do know there's a big discrepancy between how a person with BDD feels they look, and how they look in reality. Behaviours can magnify the perceived flaw in your mind's eye, which may create a distorted self-image

Body Dysmorphic Disorder is not a strive for perfection; often sufferers feel/see themselves as so deformed/ugly/disgusting/abnormal that they only wish for normality. BDD sufferers are not after the perfect appearance - merely a ‘normal’ one.
