How much data do you need to conduct an informative staggered diff-in-diff? In our new working paper @fhollenbach and I simulate the power of #DiD estimators, and find that you might need *a lot*, even to detect large effects. We also provide suggestions for improving power 1/

Our paper shows that diff-in-diff can require a surprisingly large number of units to produce anything informative. BUT in most observational research, we can't simply increase the sample size! Our paper also provides some pointers for how to improve power when N is fixed. 1/10

We show in our paper that a surprisingly large sample can be needed to power a diff-in-diff. But our paper also has implications for 1) what you should remember to include when you report your DiD results, 2) how you assess the informativeness of a DiD. A 🧵 1/

I've written this post for @ProMarket_org about my dissertation. Main finding: the revolving for shapes legislative behavior among US senators. Give it a read!

A new study finds that career prospects in the private sector do induce legislators to leave office and that US senators become more moderate before they voluntarily leave office through the revolving door, writes @BCEgerod on @ProMarket_org :

Had a blast co-authoring this! We find: 1) connections matter for lobbyists value, but *not* more than expertise. Goes against much established research (incl our own!) 2) partisanship only matters conditional on who's in power. #polisciresearch

Fascinating. This paper shows that a soft gender quota on Danish boards increased the probability that women with family connections to the firm became directors. No effect among non-connected women. 👇👇Check out the paper 👇👇
