CRISPR is incredibly normal, itās an extremely widely used molecular biology tool now, there are thousands of papers about organisms modified using Cas endonucleases and several commercially available strains of reproductively viable CRISPR knockouts.

I think generating solar power without the need for rare earth metals mined by children is worth the slight reduction in novelty.
