We can move from a "gotcha culture" to a "I got you" society. It is not going to be easy for any of us...but we can do it. It is the only way we make it to the other side.

I've worked in DC and in and around politics most of my adult life. Here are a bunch of reasons I have concluded along the way I could never be a politician:
1.) I believe the US Constitution is in need of a big overhaul, is profoundly out of date in key ways & flawed in others.
1. A disaster
Before Covid-19 landed in East Africa, a wave of locusts was ravaging East Africa
But now another wave of locusts, 20 times the size of the previous one, is headed to East Africa
And due to Covid-19, people are left virtually defenseless
Meeting the biggest challenges of this century will require more cooperation and connection than ever.

Plant trees whose shade you will never know AND work on ensuring everyone has food to eat today. That is how we move forward. That is how we make it to a better place. Not utopia, but a place better than we found it. Doesn’t happen overnight but it’s all we got.

Is there an online countdown clock of legislative days left before next election etc.? I think if folks saw what is actually left on the clock it would help underscore this issue.
Might myelination occur in areas more associated with empathy if one experienced empathy more often? Does increased myelination only occur for negative events? Could we become “faster” at empathy?

And at the same time we see a dramatic increase (across demos) of “spiritual but not religious.” The question becomes what is lost/gained in that emerging mindset?

Can you be law, order and root cause? Undressing systemic issues that date back hundreds of years and ensure physical and property safety? Must be possible, right?
The 10,000-year clock is neither a ‘frightening’ ‘distraction,’ nor an ‘admirable objective.’ It’s something else — a monument to long-term thinking, which humanity could use more of in this precarious moment. |

To be fair this occurs for almost every presidential visit going back 15+ years. You need a main route and several secure back-up routes (and this area in question is hemmed in by river and hills). These routes include egress to JFK as well as to a local trauma 1 hospital.
