Nokotan ended today and literally no one is talking about it. I won.
I'm surprised how receptive people have been to that Nokotan anime considering it feels like one of the most forced and manufactured memes ever. I would expect people to see through this soulless, cynical marketing campaign but it's been very successful.

The anime community is crazy because you'll have a show with staff like Osamu Dezaki, Yoshifumi Kondo, Joe Hisaishi, Shichirou Kobayashi, Masami Hata, Kodama Kenji, and Yoshiyuki Momose all on it and still not a single motherfucker has even seen it.

Bullshit. Four examples spanning two decades does not constitute a notable trend. The isekai genre as we know it today is completely independent from these titles. This is just a piss poor excuse to hate on Narou, which has been a great platform for amateur female writers.
Remember when Isekai used to be inspired by Shojo manga or was written by Shojo manga authors?. Not anymore. Thanks Narou for ruining everything.

I found this KareKano artwork drawn by Sushio in the January 1999 issue of Animage. What's neat is that Sushio is written on Arima's bag, despite the fact that Sushio did not adopt this pen name until two years later in 2001 (you can see here he's credited as Toshio Ishizaki).

Oshi no Ko Toppo - 10/10. A fresh, subversive take on the snack genre. One could even call it a deconstruction, as unlike other snacks of its ilk, this one shines a light on the dark underbelly of the snack manufacturing industry.

Also, the manga magazine that Fushigi Yuugi was published in, Sho-Comi, still frequently serializes fantasy manga (even if they aren't isekai, the other-world aspect never really mattered in these series, at their core they're all high fantasy series.)

While I was in Japan like 90% of the young women I met were involved in some form of oshikatsu. That sort of idol worship is very normalized. It's not an incel thing in the slightest. It might just be that you and your oomf are close-minded xenophobes.

Animage readers' TV anime ranking for April-May 1983. I knew Sasuga no Sarutobi (2) was popular, but I didn't expect it to beat out Urusei Yatsura (3). That should be your cue to go watch it, by the way. It's fantastic. Minky Momo (8) and Dr. Slump (11) are lower than I expected.

Before working as a key animator on the Minky Momo feature film, Kia Asamiya was the editor for a Minky Momo doujinshi called Doriminpa. He also went on to create Silent Mobius, Compiler, and Steam Detectives, as well as handle the manga versions of Nadesico and Corrector Yui.

I don't know where this idea comes from that the 90s was a great decade for anime. There was barely any interesting TV anime this decade before Evangelion. It wasn't until after Eva that we started getting more ambitious, inventive works, but that continued well into the 00s.
