It occurs to me that people don’t know that you can very easily use plain flour instead of self-raising. Hunners of plain in the shops, no self-raising. Just add baking powder troops and you are away. This has been a public service announcement.

Our uncle died this afternoon. Thanks for all your good wishes. The care home staff were with him when he went and couldn’t have been better. They are doing their jobs AND taking the place of family at the moment. So so hard on everyone.
My uncle is in a care home. They phoned me at 4am to say he was very ill and they were phoning an ambulance. By 4.30am the hospital had said they would only offer palliative care and he is better off in the home. No-one can visit. Staff doing a good job under incredible strain.

Well we had my uncle’s funeral today. There were six of us plus a priest, the undertaker and the gravediggers. It was actually very fitting and calm- I kind of wish Norman MacCaig and Seamus Heaney were around to write poems about 2020. Stay well! X
