Cash-strapped schools plan to lay off teachers in blow to Labour’s promise. A survey of nearly 90 schools in Calderdale, West Yorks, found more than half would make teachers redundant. One head said; “It really does feel like things are about to implode.”

The savage irony of Ofsted identifying, in these proposals, the defining qualities of an institution that fails in its duty of safeguarding as one where “There is a closed culture. Leaders are not open to challenge and/or do not learn from issues or incidents.”
