After 37 years as a solid American, I've left the U.S. My wife and I have been living in her home town of Melbourne, Australia since January, shortly before our baby was born. We'd always talked about doing it someday, but something happened last year that forced our hand. 1/ 🧵

Having worked in Tampa Bay area news, I can attest that this is very true. The man was one of the most repulsive show-boaters I'd ever seen. If he's ducking reporters, that ain't good.

I voted even though I live abroad. I don't want my friends to live in fear and oppression. I want my nieces and nephews to grow up in a better country. I want my siblings to thrive and do their work with value and dignity. I want the world to know a better future is possible.

@demsabroadau That was the point of the guide. And yet, on Facebook, this got comments like "LEAVE THE KIDS ALONE!" "Keep your fear and indoctrination to yourself" and "Don't it's ridiculous." Kids aren't blind. They see what's happening & have questions and anxieties that can be addressed.

@LakotaMan1 Yes. They will never understand or even examine what selfish, greedy, willfully ignorant monsters they've become. Or how deeply they've wounded and alienated me by quadrupling down on justifying their support. I resent them and mourn them at the same time. It's hard.
