Celtic will shortly embark on a 13th Champions League group campaign, having never won their opening game in the previous 12. Drawing CL-first timers Slovan Bratislava at home for this season's opener is a truly golden opportunity to scratch that itch.

Celtic have forked out circa £34m in transfer fees over 2024 - highest for any calendar year in their history. Yet, through judicious sales, they boast a transfer-fees surplus across the period.

Celtic have now bagged 21 doubles of league and national cup (eight, of course, converted into trebles). 10 of these in the 2000s alone. No other club in world football can rival their all-time figure. Chalk it down.

Need for Celtic win in Wednesday's Champions League opener cannot be overstated. Never mind they have not been victorious first-off in 12 previous campaigns. They have played 78 CL games, won only 19. All but two of these were more than decade ago, three last night dead rubbers.

Celtic supporters would realistically need to be in their 50s to be feasting on home derbies as the club's fans are doing now. Before yesterday's 3-0 thumping, a five-straight home winning sequence against Ibrox rivals was last achieved in April 1980. Six proved elusive. Hmmmm...

And yes I asked him about the shooting and form struggles of the covid campaign. And also about when he scored 20 goals and had 16 assists in the abridged previous one, as often overlooked. A top bloke, and top Celtic player in amazing times as not appreciated enough.

@tirnaog_09 Don't want to be a pedant but the Hail Hail chant isn't actually part of The Celtic Song. Over time the Celtic support created a mash-up of the two. Just listen to Glen's now immortal ditty...no hail hail. A corking terracing add on, though, must be said.

Spine tingling roar, spine tingling evisceration to break new CL ground. First win in opener; first four-goal haul; first five-goal haul; first victory by four-goal margin. Three points expected, yes, but players delivered them with sort of brio and elan that weren't givens.

I have known Alan for 30 years and it isn't his style. Comment not criticism, as my wife always says. Alan doesn't know my friend at all but as folk left in droves around the 80th minute where we were in Lisbon Lions upper he expressed his surprise at the early exits. At 1-0.

Labour won't remove two-child benefit cap that would lift almost half a million out of poverty. At a 3% cost of their £57 billion commitment on defence - with an unreliable, US-controlled nuclear 'deterrent' the centrepiece. What became of their moral compass? Makes you weep.

@graham1A @HarryBradyCU I hear you, but I'm perhaps conditioned by working under Fergus. He took real stick for BAB when the far more widespread, deep-seated issues of sectarianism were to be found across the city. 'Before you look out the window, look in the mirror,' would be his riposte.

I don't think the TV companies - and there are two now, of course - would be favourable to two fewer Glasgow, Edinburgh and, even perhaps, Dundee derbies, in addition to Celtic and Rangers playing the bigger city clubs more than twice. Alas, because I'd be for a 16 club setup.

@NotFarLeftAtAll @Stephen4_2 Hate to break it to anyone, but as far back as 300BC in ancient Greece galli priests would dress and present as women, sometimes castrating themselves. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that more than 2,000 years before Life Of Brian? Or have I missed something?
