Subconsciously, he opened his eyes and finding him still there, which he thought he had left sometime back, perplexed, he asked the Lord, “Why didn’t you take me along? Or worst, why did you bring me back?” Lord responded with a sheepish smile: “अच्छा हुआ की समय आते हमने नज़र इधर डाल दी…इतनी भी क्या जल्दी थी बरखुरदार - अभी तो बहुत सारे हिसाब-किताब बाक़ी हैं।” He nodded and replied through the movement of his eyes: “Will set it right next time around!” and added the postscript: “Sorry for the inconvenience caused!” Life goes on…

Footprints:-In the sands of times “Once a man recounted: There always were two sets of foot prints, mostly, in his journey of life but at various occasions, one set of footprints were missing! And he noticed in those sands of times, it was mostly missing during his most troubled times. It deepened his anguish. "Why, my Lord, why my God?" he whispered, his voice trembling with grief. "Why did you abandon me when I needed you the most?" The shifting sands bore the story of his life, marked by footprints—two sets walking side by side in times of peace and joy. But in the moments of hardship, in the darkest hours when the storms of despair raged, there was only one set of footprints. Tears welled up in his eyes. "I trusted you," he murmured. "I believed in your presence, yet when the burden was unbearable, when I was lost, broken, and afraid, you left me to walk alone in the sands of time. How could you turn away from me?" A gentle breeze swept through the silence, and then, in a voice as deep as eternity yet as soft as a whisper, God replied: "My child, I never left you. Not for a single moment." The man, he lifted his gaze, and in the vast emptiness, he felt a presence—unseen, yet unmistakable. "When life was kind, we walked together, side by side," God continued. "But in the moments when the road was harsh, when the storms rose and you were too weak to walk, I did not leave you behind." The man’s breath hitched as God’s voice grew tender. "The footprints you see, the ones that appear alone in the storm, are not yours," God said. "They are mine. For in those times of trial, I did not walk beside you—I carried you in my arms." A wave of understanding washed over the man, and his sorrow melted into awe. He looked at the footprints once more, but now, he saw them differently—not as a sign of abandonment, but of unwavering love.” Anonymous

Pleading/arguing is an art form which our law schools don’t prepare us for! Have got stories to tell on acing this art, but for the moment, this one comes close to emulate!
In my early years in law, I used to be nervous about arguing before Court. I used to wonder how these senior counsels argue matters so efficiently and effectively. Running from one court to another, narrating facts and explaining the law so confidently, I used to be in awe. Would I ever be able to do this? Was I even cut out for practice? But the more time I spent in the profession and argued before Courts, I realised it gets easier. It gets easier because the more you argue, the closer you get to finding your style of arguing. Every counsel is different. C.A. Sundaram once told a friend that he doesn’t know what he’s going to say when he stands up to argue. He trusts his words will come to him when he starts. Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi on the other hand knows exactly how he is going to start his submissions. He prepares his ‘one-liners’ and punch lines. Both very different styles, but very effective in their own way. In my early years, I didn’t know my style. I’m honestly still figuring it out. But I know it a lot better now. I like starting with a clear plan— I know exactly the tone I’m going to use, my pace, and opening lines, and that calms me. Knowing my style, is what makes me confident now. Finding your style is like learning to swim or drive. Once you find it, it stays with you. It becomes like a dependable friend. But for you to trust it, you need to find it and nurture it. So, practice your arguing. It doesn’t have to be before court. You can practice anywhere. In front of a mirror, on video, whatever suits you. Go all out. Practice before your hearings or better yet, practice just for the sake of practice. Slowly your style of arguing will start to come forth. And slowly you’ll start to feel more confident. So, take out some time and figure out your style – it’s the best investment a litigation lawyer can make.
