@Robotheology @Zygonjournal Thanks for sharing! I wonder if another factor is that much of human religion ties into veneration of the dead, and religious identity tends to be inherited (even in universal religions) and AI, currently, doesn't have ancestry.

@DaisyDeadhead @shashim260 @RuthEBrown8888 @HazelAppleyard_ @RebecMasterton It also depends on your criterion for legitimacy. Amina Wadud is an excellent modern female Muslim theologian. However she presents her own views, not others'. If you reject someone for pursuing their own line of thought, that inherently rules out "starting one's own order".

@shashim260 @DaisyDeadhead @RuthEBrown8888 @HazelAppleyard_ @RebecMasterton "Religious order" - Muslims don't really have "religious orders" in the same way or formally canonize saints. There are female Sufi shaykhs with followers and shrines where women associated with miracles are buried. But the examples given by Sarah also seem parallel.

@shashim260 @DaisyDeadhead @RuthEBrown8888 @HazelAppleyard_ @RebecMasterton Akram Nadwi's work is excellent for tracing the history of women in Islamic scholarship. Banu Amin Esfahani is a relatively recent female Islamic scholar .

@MM_Knight I agree on both counts - there could be a broader spread of Islam in the US, but new people also change a thing (just as happened when Islam spread everywhere else). Also the US has many religious experimenters and some may simply try out Islam then go on to the next new thing.

@Robotheology I agree that for AI, dealing with us would be like watching grass grow, but I also don't think it has a reason to be impatient with us since it doesn't have a fixed lifespan, unless it gets a desire for stimulation.
