because it was EASIER to launch
@DailyWorth
, raise $9M in VC, grow it to 1M subscribers while raising two young children while going through divorce. It was my only way to fight the f**kedupness of being female. To help women become financially free.
Meet Jay Arzu, UPenn Urban Planning PhD candidate and Rhodes Scholar who is building a movement to organize the funding and construction of the Roosevelt Boulevard Subway Line in Philly.
Just submitted my 4-page outline on how we FUND the
@BlvdSubway
through lens of 150 years of rapid transit funding history in U.S. Anyone want to see it or ensure I am looking at the right things? Have 2 weeks to write it. (city planning masters program history and theory class)
@ECMcLaughlin
I don't always agree with you. You often make me uncomfortable. Shhhh ECM you're being over dramatic. But I always trust you are driving toward truth, which makes everyone uncomfortable. You are gold. I love you.
When it comes to funding the
@BlvdSubway
, the long term argument is clear: cars bad, transit oriented development good. But there's a giant chasm between Philly rapid transit today and what it needs to become in order to be USABLE as an alternative to the reliability of cars.
Look who joined our
@templeuniv
IH class by
@zoom_us
today. Students have been reading Plato, Marx, de Tocqueville & more. They asked smart, challenging questions about the philosophical & epistemological foundations of political thought. Thanks

Disclaimer: This has no official connection to my boss Mayoral candidate
@MariaQSanchez
, it's a personal interest. This post is for: Philadelphians, people interested in urban design and poverty alleviation, subways, nerds.
I saw a person walk out of the middle of
@marwilliamson
’s speech at Unity Omaha this evening crying. They said they were just so touched. Personally I was touched that this person was so touched.

Keep it coming Marianne. You are opening hearts. The world needs you.
Philly transit people, did you know PA Sec. of Transportation is named Michael B Carroll and Philly OTIS Managing Director is named Michael A. Carroll? wtf. WHY?
#WhyIDidntReport
because it had become so commonplace by age 14 that I figured it was just part of being female. And it is was. And it still is. I have hope.

I'm a proud supporter of
@Camfed
- the girls we support to go to school grow up to be women who pay that opportunity forward. Entrepreneurs in our

in Ghana have been on TV to explain! Don't miss it:
My husband
@jordosh
: we should build 76Place in a huge empty lot in North East while also building the
@BlvdSubway
. They'd be done about the same time. 🧏
Jay caught my attention a few months ago as
@BlvdSubway
on Twitter. My mom grew up in the Northeast. I drive this horrible highway/stoplight mashup spawl nightmare only when I have no other choice.
If you've ever been to Philly, you might know that the "Northeast" (like, The Bronx) is 30% of Philly's geographic landmass and population, and (unlike NYC which has SUBWAYS) is only accessibly by a single, dangerous auto highway called Roosevelt Boulevard.
Congress voted to raise taxes on 92 million middle-class families, increase health care costs, and endanger life-saving programs. Join me Wednesday in

It's so obvious. Let's make it happen. The Northeast needs connectivity. So many neighborhoods are stuck in this sprawling isolation.
One of the best parts of my tour with
@BlvdSubway
was his ability to list decade by decade the history of every intersection, its bus routes, trollies, connections, pavings, screw ups with funding, enviro catastrophes. Dude's a genius.
Nostalgic for election night 2016 when
@ECMcLaughlin
talked to me all night because she wasn't ECM in full force yet. I miss those days. (love you. keep being you.) p.s. 0 nostalgia for election night 2016.
#BlueWave
Great day with Jay driving the full stretch from Hunting Park to Neshaminy (40-minute drive) while brainstorming every permutation of possibility for a region of Philly that got redlined off decades ago.
Wow

#Marianne2020
supporters you are a large, fierce, committed community of Americans and I'm so proud to see from the inside what you do for this campaign every day.
AND Roosevelt Boulevard is 90% grass midlines, lined by spotting of housing developments and warehouses, but doesn't feel to me -- am outsider -- as having structural cohesiveness -- it's like the worst of opportunistic, random sprawl / And it's geographically ENORMOUS.
Jay graciously accepted my request for a personal tour of his vision, its potential, highlighting the thick green pasture that runs up its middle of the Roosevelt Boulevard highway that can be cut into with minimal disruption (?), ripe for cut and cover construction.
I never imagined new subways could be built in the 2020s - the costs, disruption, unit economics -- it's all, already developed. But Biden admin is pouring investment into infrastructure to do this project suddenly has life.
BIG NEWS:
@DailyWorth
, the financial media company I started 10 years ago, has been acquired by
@JeanChatzky
. The brand, mission and vision are in great hands with Jean.
@JoshKrugerPHL
Can they navigate state and federal agencies to manifest giant, transformative projects like
@BlvdSubway
to reverse a century of damage done by redlining, disinvestment, and segregation? That's my
#1
hope.
@longboot4
@nytimes
If you've never lived with this, you don't understand. Being next to a gum chewer makes me want to rip my ear drums out. It's a level of rage and pain that are completely irrational, and yet they're all consuming. It's hell.
@BlvdSubway
@jongeeting
We got this y'all. I believe there's a thirst and calling in Philly to do big, transformational things in our city that supersedes
#ThePhillyShrug
. It's time.
