Congratulations @chazfirestone! I'm so thankful to have had the opportunity to work with this brilliant scientist.
Congratulations to @chazfirestone of @JohnsHopkins on receiving the 2024 Joseph B. Gittler Award!π Dr. Firestone has made an incredible impact in the philosophical foundations of psychological knowledge, and we're proud to give him the recognition he deserves.π #Psychology

Check out @ljuba_pi's original thread too π (and the paper itself, of course!)

Check out this great piece from @PsychScience on biases in visual memory! It highlights recent work, including research on scene memory πΌ by me, @shreyawadhwa, and @michaelfbonner (link here π
Basic research on our imperfect visual memories is bringing to light how and why we may misremember what we have seen. @deepasri_p @WilmaBainbridge @NicoleCRust @BarnesGLJannuzi @chazfirestone @AlonHafri

@langofmind @jplennon630 This paper by Jose Rivera-Aparicio, Qian Yu, and @chazfirestone empirically confirms your subjective experience here (and was actually inspired by similar experiences with video games!)

A great and compelling framework on compositionality in perception from @buffalosentence. Check it out!
Someone recently told me that "compositionality" was the most pretentious word they had ever heard. I am very happy to announce my new article, "The Compositionality of Perception: A Framework," in @WIREsCogSci!

@NartkerMakaela's work (with @ibphillips, @chazfirestone, & Howard Egeth) has completely reshaped my thinking on inattentional blindness and has transformed how I will teach it. It's also a crucial reminder of the importance of signal detection methods in our field. Check it out!

Denis's work on giving/taking relations in development and in adult cognition is amazing! You have to check it out. (And while we're on the subject, you should also *give* him an academic job! π)
New paper alert! π¨ Late to sharing this, but here's a short review of a decade of work with @GCsibra on how infants represent giving, and why it matters (for event cognition and the origins of the relational mind). Thread below! π§΅π 1/15

@quiltydunn @De_dicto @MatthiasMichel_ @De_dicto thanks for these points! Especially re: perception vs. WM. I agree this particular finding doesn't directly address predicate-argument structure, but I think some of our other findings do (& newer followups to that work

@VictorLamme Thanks Victor! We worried about this too, so we ran control exps in which we preserved many of these image properties while removing the impression of relations. This eliminated the previous effect, suggesting that our original results were due to extraction of relations per se.

Iβm excited to continue this line of work in my lab @UDelaware, the Perception and Language (PAL) Lab! We're always looking for motivated researchers to join our team, so please reach out if interested. In other words, come be a "pal" in the PAL lab!
