When I see a replay of the 2001 Daytona
@NASCARonNBC
broadcast among many emotions I feel - 1) So proud of the work our team did that night … and 2) so grateful that words came at the right moment that seem to have meant so much to so many.
It’s 1am. I have to leave for the airport at 4:30. But I’m still buzzing over how much FUN
@SRXracing
has been. So grateful to
@CBSSports
- the drivers,
@RayEvernham
and mostly to YOU for your kind words. That you are enjoying this is everything!
As I leave
@IMS
this morning I’m so grateful to have had the chance to call the 500 for
@ABCNetwork
- surrounded by an amazing group of pros who make a very complex task happen. Thank you for flooding my timeline with your kind words, truly humbled.
To
@IndyCar
drivers and teams for sharing time and knowledge, officials for being terrific to work with, a wonderful
@ABCNetwork
TV team I was honored to be part of, and most of all to fans for watching. THANK YOU!!!
My 1am “can’t sleep before an early flight” tweet -
@SlingerSpeedway
was EVERYTHING I hoped it would be. Great fans, great racing, great fun. Thank you!!!
What
@NASCARONFOX
is doing technically to pull off these
@TooToughToTame
shows is complex. Don’t know of any hiccups, and if there have been they’ve been invisible to us. Big props.
One of the things that made 1990s
@nascar
so fun was getting to go to many new places and experience new things. It wasn’t all perfect then and won’t be now, but just as back then the pluses are way more than minuses. Enjoy and have fun!
Character flaw: Pammy says I don’t handle compliments well. Too focused on what we can do better. And I’m but one member of a huge team. But please allow me to say THANK YOU for all your kind thoughts. I’m always so humbled by your generous words.
My Dad served his country for 28 years. And while he did my Mom kept the home front together with military precision. She is buried in the Veterans Cemetery, and today I also remember and salute those who kept the home fires burning for those who were serving.
Back in the day during a
@nascar
rain delay, a little card game used to break out with the
@MRNRadio
and
@espn
booth guys. Barney, BP, Ned, Bob and me. Great laughs with great people.
Remember when
@nhl
did the first Winter Classic? Technology to have a hockey game anywhere.
@nascar
did the same by developing the ability to build a proper short track in different spaces. Going new places and doing different things is good for the sport.
Really great to see both
@IndyCar
and
@NASCAR
getting back at it. The return to post-pandemic life requires a first step, and for racers and race fans these are carefully thought-out first steps.
#TBT
to when I was able to fulfill a wish of my Dad to see the
@knoxvilleraces
Nationals. Made possible by
@TonyStewart
giving us both a lift to Watkins Glen after Thurs night prelims. That’s
@BuckeyeBullet10
owned car behind us.
We called him “Father Squier” because he was the one who blazed the trail, then guided many down that trail and taught us how to excel. A favorite memory: A quiet visit in a hotel lounge
@NASCARHall
induction a few years ago, sharing stories. His influence can’t be overstated.
It’s a voice and a presence that has graced our televisions for decades - whether it’s a racetrack, a videogame, or even the basketball court.
@AllenBestwick
has cherished the love and feedback from fans for years, as he simply accomplished what he set out to do.
Remembering Benny Parsons today
7/12/1941 - 1/16/2007
#RIP
In 1980, Darrell Waltrip was trying to win his 3rd consecutive World 600.
#DW
& Benny Parsons waged an epic battle, swapping the lead back & forth repeatedly.
#BP
made the winning pass with just over a lap to go. 🏁
Not where I was supposed to be today, but when work was Covid-cancelled brought my Dad his favorite birthday meal, steamers and chowder. Happy 82nd to the best Dad you could ever ask for!!
First met
@mattkenseth
at the All American 400, he was 16 or 17. Covered him from “kid” to Cup Champion, a great driver and always great to deal with. Absolutely thrilled to see him win today. Congrats Matt!!
We got married 1-11-11 partly so I could easily remember it. 7 years later there’s no way I could ever forget it. Amazing wife and best friend
@PammyRI
On the night John Lennon was shot, I was a very young disc jockey on the air at an AM radio station in Connecticut. From the initial news bulletin to the aftermath, the night is still vivid to me now, 40 years later.
#imagine
Our friend and
@ABCNetwork
colleague
@DocPunchESPN
receiving the Bob Russo Award for his dedication and contributions to Indy 500 and sport. So well deserved.
When I went to
@PoconoRaceway
I was never just at the track, I was at Doc and Dr Rose’s place. They cared personally that you had a good time. Dr Rose was gracious, genuine, and someone I’ll always remember.
