People have always lived in Stanley Park, but did you know someone has been there for 34 years? He's been there by choice, and his time is coming to an end. This is part 1 of a 3-part story.
Meet the man who’s lived 30 years in Stanley Park.
@GlobalBC
You’d think there was an actual playoff game happening here… 11,000 tickets sold for a viewing party at Rogers Arena. All tickets $15, the proceeds going to Canucks for Kids Fund
@GlobalBC
Was just getting shots of an anti-mask rally at the Vancouver Art Gallery and one gentleman yelled at me calling me and liar and a whore because I worked at a news station. To people everywhere: please don’t do this to reporters. We’re just doing our job.
I haven’t been on-air since this day, April 6. I had felt “off” for a while and a few days later my counsellor told me I had burnout and early onset PTSD. The traumatic stories, graphic images and online abuse finally got to me after 12 years in the news business.
This is now my favourite interview. 6 y/o Leanne, obviously a keen photographer, asked me why I was holding a microphone - so I interviewed her about her day in Stanley Park.
@CTVVancouver
Professional update… tonight I signed off for the last time with CTV Vancouver. This station gave me so much - colleagues who became friends and a chance to report and anchor the news (even with an Aussie accent).
I left CTV less than 6 months ago. Everyone was already doing three jobs. And yet, my former colleagues were still determined to deliver competitive work under incredibly trying circumstances. I didn’t think it was possible to cut even further.
Premier David Eby on cuts by Bell media. “They have sucked out their life blood like vampires. They were allowed to do this. It’s appalling, companies like this need to be held accountable.”
#bcpoli
I’m thankful I caught it and I’m incredibly grateful that CTV understood and encouraged me to take time off to heal, and I still have a way to go. This is why you haven’t seen me on TV for a while, but I’ll be back x
NEW: BC Government announces one round of IVF will be covered starting April 2025. Gov says people should be able to have a child 'regardless of their relationship status, who they love and how much money they make'.
BC boosters: the lovely woman who just administer mine at the Convention Centre tells me they are accepting walk ins for the rest of today (until 8pm). They normally have 6,000 appointments per day, today only 3,200 people booked in.
@CTVVancouver
At sunset, on the beach we always go to, wearing a hoodie, nails not done.
The easiest yes of my life ❤️
You and me

Thank you to the couple behind who figured out what was happening so we get some cute candid pictures.
In a city that rains so much you’d think people would know to be safer… just saw a guy in black clothes, hood on, head down, walk across a West End street without looking. Driver nearly hit him.
Wearing all black in the rain makes you almost invisible at night.
*rant over*
Residents of Lytton and surrounding villages and towns marching in protest saying the rebuild and archeological process is taking too long. It’s been more than two years since the village burned to the ground
@GlobalBC
Yesterday I left my cell phone in an Evo. The woman who booked the car next was able to bring up the emergency contact in my phone and make a phone call. Within an hour and a half I had my phone back. Sometimes people can be quite amazing. Thank you, Kiara.
The party that didn’t happen… hundreds of people are wandering around Sunset Beach asking where the 4/20 event is. Fencing is all around the grassed area, the washrooms are closed and park rangers are not allowing vehicles or vendors in
@GlobalBC
Update to this from Van Fire: at least 7 surrounding homes impacted, one home lost. The crane brought down trolley wires and powerlines onto 41st Ave. Some fire fighters have minor injuries. Gas and power had to be cut off. Details at 11 on
@GlobalBC
The pedestrian path on the Burrard Bridge has so far been plowed three times in a hour (that I’ve seen). Good to see the priority routes being looked after
#bcstorm
And shout out to
@JeffGuignard
who’s been helping me through it all.
As he says, “if you’re going through something, I’m going through it too. We’re a team.”
I’m grateful everyday for him and my amazing support network ❤️
After media pressure to speak about the issue the Vancouver mayor has agreed to give a tour of his office to see the secret gym. Here is the media pack waiting to see it…

Another major cleanup operation today in Vanier Park. At least 140 propane tanks removed from the encampment, after more than 80 were removed in June
@CTVVancouver
I was irritable, had trouble concentrating, was having flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety attacks frequently. When faced with extreme emotions (anger, love etc) my brain shut off as a protection mechanism and I couldn’t feel them anymore. I was no longer myself.
I want to express my gratitude to the residents of a quiet cul-de-sac in Langley. Our crew was reporting on a story there tonight and the locals offered us water, ginger ale and let us use their bathroom. It makes the hard stories that much better
This has been the case for a long time now and
@Joe_Hildebrand
has managed to eloquently put it into words. Not just around the Australia Day debate, this applies to so many issues.
On Friday
@CTVVancouver
wrote a story about the cost of removing the bike. Counter the below suggestion the memo was not “leaked” to us. I asked Park Board staff for updated information and they sent it to me. I just did my job, there was nothing political.
I spent the first half of my shift tonight in the back of a fire truck, while wearing steel toe boots (you’ll find out why next week). The second half in a crisp white blazer behind the desk. Grateful I have a job where I can do both. Also, tune in at 11:30 to
@CTVVancouver
When I worked alongside
@ianhanomansing
he offered to record a Christmas message for my mum to go alongside some archive footage I found of her as a 20-something in Edmonton. Genuinely one of the kindest men in media.
My sister and I went to get dumplings tonight and ended up at a Chinese restaurant where they were having a private karaoke party but told us to sit down anyway - everyone sang and danced and they let us be party of their party and I wish more Vancouver nights were this wonderful
We were on scene this morning as illegal campers in Vanier Park were told they have to leave. About a dozen propane tanks were removed and rangers say they're going to enforce bylaws and pull structures down. Full story tonight on
@CTVVancouver
VPD believe up to 100 cars have had windows smashed across Vancouver in the past two days. This video shows a man tap the front window 3 times, then break the back in one hit. 3am Thursday. Full details at 6 on
@GlobalBC
I'm told flags at all Vancouver civic buildings will be flown at half-mast for 215 hours (until sunset on Monday, June 7) after the discovery of children's remains in Kamloops.
@CityofVancouver
@CTVVancouver
My mum sent a really lovely note saying I'm looking nice on TV lately and asked if I was doing something different. I want to say eating well/exercising/meditating but none of that is true, I'm just wearing more makeup.

Remember those RVs and campers parked at Spanish Banks? They started towing some this morning after the owners were given final notice to leave. Full story tonight on
@CTVVancouver
After all the dramas at YVR last week I’m happy to report we checked our bags and went through security in about 20 minutes for a flight that’s on time this morning. We’re visiting family in Ottawa and Montreal for a delayed Christmas… see you in the new year, twitter!
An uncomfortable truth about what's happening in our city. The job of Park Ranger used to be about ecology, but as a former ranger told me, it's now almost entirely about bylaw enforcement of tents in parks. And it's burning them out.
@GlobalBC
There's such a strange walk-back of comments by the London Drugs COO this week.
On Tuesday, Clint Mahlman told me, on camera, "I can say that there’s active conversations about closing stores right here in Vancouver."
Incredibly sad update: BC RCMP confirm 4 people died in this bus crash on Highway 97C. It's believed "extremely icy road conditions caused the rollover."
This article will be updated
Some behind the scenes tonight - while preparing for a live hit downtown with
@Borges_Nation
a man was hovering and wanting to jump in our shot. Legendary Global cameraman, Steve, kept an eye on us. Our stations are competitors but we’re family in the field
What happens to stranger attack victims? They’re left with deep scars both physical and emotional. Casey was slashed on her neck with a machete three months ago. Her alleged attacker - a repeat offender - is now out on bail.
@CTVVancouver
Business owners have been telling me for months about their challenges with crime and public safety - so I did an analysis of how much money the Vancouver BIAs were spending to combat it… money that should be going to “fun things” around the city.
It was stormy but magical. Definitely check out Tofino in the off-season - it’s quiet and relaxed and the few places that are open have exceptional food
Important clarifications I've been sent today from a Ministry of Health spokesperson re: new restrictions for Vancouver Coastal and Fraser Health:
1. No social gatherings of any size with anyone other than your immediate household. That includes outdoors or in restaurants.

@GlobalBC
“The system is broken”
Background here:
Tonight I cast my first vote in a local Vancouver election (in 2018 I’d only just moved here from Australia). I always feel very lucky that I get to vote in two countries. Also, the pre-polling station was packed tonight!

Global BC viewers are amazing and incredibly generous.
Tomorrow, on Good Friday, I will have an update to Deborah's story - and it's a heartwarming one.
During our interview Deborah said, “Every day I say, ‘Maybe I should just kill myself; I’m not of use anymore. Why am I here?'”
A senior who had a good career, then lost 2 husbands to cancer and her father died. A few years later she was living in her car behind a supermarket
NEW: Eby's announcement cleared up a funding discrepancy for Vancouver's 100 cops/100 nurses plan. Ken Sim tells me they knew $3m was coming from the province but couldn't announce it. Hence the $4.5m for cops and $1.5m for nurses
Background:
@CTVVancouver
While in the park - rangers spotted a used needle on the ground and told us to be careful. I looked down and saw three more where I was standing.

The Black Lives Matter protest moves to Crab Park to show solidarity with the homeless population living in the tent city. This is after the Supreme Court granted an injunction to clear the tents.
Fire inside the Capital Bar on Davie street this morning, it’s been closed for renovations. Crews say the fire was in the walls, residents living above say smoke was coming out of the sink. One person treated for smoke inhalation
@CTVVancouver
I was lucky enough to get my first chance at being on air in Canada at
@NEWS1130
. A young anchor, fresh from Toronto helped me through almost every shift and made it fun. I’m so thankful I got to work with
@Toby_Kerr
