i can’t stop thinking of the scene in Handmaids Tale, when a woman escaping Gilead w/ a baby crosses a river & makes it to shore in Canada. A Canadian border officer arrives & says something like you’re in Canada, you’re safe” then gives them blankets & takes them to the hospital.

2+ years ago, I found an old land title for 40 acres on Sapelo Island, GA. It was among dozens in a "miscellaneous" folder from the National Archives. Turns out they were issued in 1865 to freedmen through the infamous "40 Acres and a Mule" program, which was later revoked.
