. @wojespn is not referring to Lakers clearing Mo Wagner, Isaac Bonga and Jemerrio Jones. He’s referring to adding them to the Anthony Davis trade so they can execute it as an over-cap team, and sending the three players to a third team. That’s what gets Lakers to $32M cap room.

This is absolutely brilliant work by the Miami Heat… They drop from $6.3M to just $1.2M over the tax line ($8.0M savings), and put themselves in striking distance of avoiding it altogether, for 2018-19; and turn a $19.2M player option into a $15.6M partial guarantee for 2019-20.

Think about the vision that created this Heat team… Draft Bam mid-round. Shock us with Kelly. Sign DJJ mid-season. Turn 0 picks into Duncan. Snag Nunn last day. Draft Tyler mid-round. Acquire Jimmy+Meyers from thin air. (Get some Goran luck.) Grab Iggy+Jae... And plan for '21...

Suns, by trading DeAnthony Melton and Josh Jackson to the Grizzlies in exchange for Kyle Korver and Jevon Carter, will likely waive Korver and thus create the cap room necessary to retain Kelly Oubre’s $9.6M qualifying offer (and thus re-sign him).

Big development in Lakers attempt to pair LeBron James and Anthony Davis with $32M+ cap room: NOP will apparently allow LAL to expand 7/6 trade to include 3rd team. (NOP could be improving competitor, but only direct impact would be to lower/eliminate its trade bonus obligation.)

Heat acquiring Jimmy Butler at $32.7M in exchange for Josh Richardson ($10.1M) to 76ers and Kelly Olynyk ($12.7M) and Derrick Jones ($1.7M) to Mavs would still not be enough for MIA to trade-match. Jones would need to be guaranteed, and something else needs to happen. Stay tuned.

If Celtics can (i) convince Nets to take in Kyrie Irving via S&T and (ii) convince a suitor to take Terry Rozier into room via S&T, they could potentially acquire Kemba Walker at $32.7M max in a 3-team trade AND keep free agent rights to everyone (Al Horford, Marcus Morris, etc).

OKC, by trading Jerami Grant to DEN: (i) saves $35M ($9M salary, plus $26M tax), (ii) drops to just $2M over the tax line to 13 players (need to add one more), putting itself in striking distance to avoid the repeater tax altogether, and (iii) generates a $9.3M trade exception.

Heat, by taking in Jimmy Butler ($32.7M) in exchange for Josh Richardson ($10.1M) and Goran Dragic ($19.2M), and assuming they waive-and-stretch Ryan Anderson ($5.2M for 3 years), would have $133.6M to 12 players; that’s $5.3M below the hard cap. They may not be done dealing.

Unless the Heat make another move, they can’t complete the Jimmy Butler S&T without first waiving-and-stretching Ryan Anderson.

Clippers will officially send their 2019 first-round draft pick to the Celtics (via the Grizzlies, to whom they originally sent it in the Jeff Green trade in Feb. 2016).

Lakers could get to $32.5M of cap room AND let Anthony Davis accept his full $4.1M trade bonus if they sign the #4 pick (selected on behalf of Pelicans), use up all their cap room, and operate as an over-the-cap team to make the trade official 30 days after the 1st was signed.

In a 2-team trade for Russell Westbrook, Heat would need to send out at least 3 of these 5 players: Goran Dragic, James Johnson, Justise Winslow, Kelly Olynyk, Dion Waiters. Other assets can certainly be included as negotiated (e.g., Herro, Okpala, Adebayo for MIA; 1sts for OKC).

Heat would need to send out at least $41.5M for Damian Lillard… Also keep in mind that the $9.5M the Heat sent by trading Victor Oladipo to OKC isn’t yet official, and could theoretically be combined.

Conspiracy Theory: Heat signed Jaquez, which means he can’t be traded for 30 days, BUT his salary would now count in a trade. It just so happens that Herro + Oladipo (to OKC) + Jaquez + Jovic and/or Highsmith is just barely enough to be a trade match for Lillard.😬

Kevin Durant’s 1+1 deal would pay him $30.0M next season, and enable him to become a free agent next summer. He’d then be eligible to sign a five-year, project $221M max contract. That would be $251M over the next six years (through age 35).

The Heat, by the way, have taken over the top spot in the NBA in team 3-point shooting percentage: 38.4% (Without Duncan Robinson, they’d be 36.3%.)

Keep in mind: Lakers still have $3.7M in cash available to trade away for 2018-19 (could try to use it to acquire 2nd-round picks in June), and a full $5.6M allotment for 2019-20 (could try to use as an enticement with regard to Jones/Bonga/Wagner in July).

Why would the Heat slot Maurice Harkless into the NT-MLE rather than the BAE? This is why… Miami now projects to be an over-the-cap team next summer, so, by avoiding using the BAE, they now have it in their arsenal for next season.

Heat were forced to trade 2023 1st to complete Jimmy Butler trade after Mavs refused to take Goran Dragic ($19M expiring). Instead, DAL gave up 2 2nds to acquire Delon Wright (3/$27M)… Dragic has been awesome for MIA; Wright, who eats $9M of 2021 cap room, barely played for DAL.

Celtics would acquire Kemba Walker ($32.7M) in a trade-match to BYC-adjusted salaries of Kyrie Irving ($20.1M) and Terry Rozier ($9.0M). Hornets would acquire Rozier ($17.9M) in trade-match to BYC-adjusted salary of Walker ($16.4M). Nets would take Irving ($32.7M) into cap room.

One good thing about the late start to the 2020-21 NBA season: It gave Max Strus the chance to fully recover from the ACL tear he suffered last December, and now make the Heat’s season opening roster a two-way contract.
