Follow up questions for Aidan based on pg 339. 1. Why did Ireland, under de Valera, only provide 'help short of war' when full military engagement could have significantly bolstered the Allied cause? Was this a sign of neutrality or reluctance to fully commit against the Axis powers? 2. Given that MI6 confirmed there was no substantial German espionage in Ireland, why did the Irish government allow MI6 to operate surreptitiously within their borders? Doesn't this suggest a lack of sovereignty or complicity in espionage activities? 3. The text mentions that Colonel Dan Bryan admitted there was justification for Maffey's statement about the Irish belief in a German victory. Doesn't this indicate that Irish neutrality was more about betting on the wrong side than a principled stance? 4. G2, MI5, OSS. These are fringe groups with very few members present in Ireland during the war. Why are you putting so much stock in the opinions of such small groups of people? Certainly groups like the IMRA, Ailtirí na hAiséirghe, Craobh na hAiséirghe, the IRA, the YIA, the ICF, Cumann Corpruiteac Náisiúnta, Celtic Confederation of Occupational Guilds (CCOG), the PNP… better represented Irish feelings on the conflict, than foreign intelligence services?
