Previously active Twitter but actively avoiding this dumpster fire of a platform now.
Experimenting with keeping my thoughts for pub rants and occasional blogs.
Something about Musks latest stunts has tipped me over the edge. I may lurk in the back during football matches but I think, in the short term at least, I'm done with this platform.
It feels like Nolan. Just grubby & bad for my mental health. So yeah, I'm away, (for a bit anyway)
I may be trippin from the vaccine, but did our actual first minister place the crime of social distancing at a funeral ABOVE setting a fucking double decker bus on fire.
It must be this fever.
Last night I went to DJ Shadow in Dublin.
I got a bus from the centre of Belfast, to the centre of Dublin at 14.40, grabbed a few pints, food, gig, few more pints and got a 12.40 bus back from Dublin City Centre to Belfast.
How am I only learning that this is a thing you can do?
Jeffrey Donaldson for Westminster! Nomination papers submitted to be an official candidate for his 7th election to Westminster. With over 20 years experience as Member of Parliament, speaking up for Northern Ireland in London & delivering for his constituents vote DONALDSON X 🇬🇧
Value Cab driver just offered me a ride home for £20 (normally £6/7).
On a Thursday, at 11.50. The world has gone mad. Is it any wonder everyone leaves early to get the last bus now.
Noticing a few tweets about how badly some Belfast drinking establishments treated their staff over the pandemic.
We need to know who the good guys are.
Let’s hear the good news stories.
Are you a hospitality worker who’s been treated well by your employer during Covid?

I'd be prepared to wager this legislation pre-dates the availability of low cost battery powered amplification.
I'd would suggest that a local by-law managing sound pollution, which I think would come under BCC control, could deal with this in some way. It's out of control atm.
So many important lessons for NI with
@array_studios
Turner Prize.
Not least about the massive reserves of talent that we have. Under appreciated, under funded, ignored, patronised but world class
Can they get a secure studio space now?
Cause we don’t even give them that.
Just a wee reminder that 13.5% of our population voted DUP last Thursday.
It's hard to imagine how a system where a party polling 13.5%* of the population's vote can hold everyone else to ransom could work. It's a miracle we got this far.
*(or even 19.5% of those who voted)
Info: DUP & SF gave planning to venture capitalists who
1. asked to demolish all of this to build more shops/offices we don't need
2.Don't have the money to actually do it & are hoping to flip it once they get planning, thereby leading to ongoing derelictionerelictioneriliction

If you're angry about what you see here and how the rest of CQ's heritage is being mistreated, remember: planning is with Belfast City Council. Vote accordingly at May elections. 🗳
@jackbern23
@SiobhanFenton
Yr pretty much on the money here. No errors imo. From over here it at least feels that yall can't ignore us anymore, which is one good thing
So you went to Spain. On a plane. For a holiday. In the middle of a pandemic.
And now I'm supposed to feel sorry for you because you have to quarantine?
At what point are people going to realise that the concept of 'the high street' as somewhere to sell stuff is dead. It's not coming back. Ever.
Get on with reimagining how we use our city centres or watch them die.
We have reached out to local stakeholders who we hope to meet with in the coming weeks to talk about changes to our forthcoming plans and listen to their feedback.

Your daily reminder that AQE are a private company who’s primary motivation is to make money and preserve the transfer system.
If you can get a GCSE based on a teachers report why not a transfer?
Imagine being a Unionist in N Belfast. You’re being told to re-elect the architect of Brexit & sea border.
RHI, horrendous child poverty, humiliated in Parliament, religious fundamentalists, basically utter ball bags, but you’re being asked to vote for them to protect the Union
Remember when
@belfastcc
changed the black bin collections to fortnightly and everyone lost their shit about how it was impossible and stuff?
It's funny how policy can change behaviour when it tries.
I just put out my black bin with one bin bag in it and we're a family of five.
Hey twitter. I'm 50 today. I should probably change my profile picture that was taken when I was in my early 30s. (I still have the hat tho)
If you're in town later call in to the Black Box and have a pint with me.
Easties!
There's a real chance we can elect a Green Party MLA today.
Not just that but a gorgeous big ginger rocket called

It'll probably be between him and the DUP getting a second seat.
Lend him your vote today and see what he can do. The man will do us proud.

...so I can RT it 100 times
Would you go to a vaccination at 3.40am?
I sure as fuck would. It would be like an exciting adventure, like an early morning holiday start or a midnight screening.
(anti-vaxers I'm not interested in your 'No')
We must explore all opportunities to maximise our vaccination programme in NI. We need to aspire to build a 24/7 service.
Mass Vaccination is the only long-term solution to lockdowns and finally defeating COVID-19.
A national effort is needed as we wage war against this virus.
Look I know for some of you I'm one of 100 people RTing this into your timeline, but if you're a follower from outside NI who doesn't follow a lot of NI tweeps you should read this. We lost an incredible, important citizen yesterday. It should reverberate across the world.

Due to the closure of the U N'ards Rd M&S Food hasn't done great business and now has a TON of stuff discounted.

Avoid the feeling of January lasting forever by going freelance and then leaving filling your tax return in till the last minute.
You’ll be amazed how quickly 31st January comes around. Like a fucking freight train let me tell you.
Hi
@belfastcc
. Can clarify the by-laws around signage/advertising on hoardings?
I get that you should be grand to advertise what you’re building on that site, but advertising a development 5 miles away seems a stretch to me? What are the rules? It’s ugly as sin also like.
Hey Belfast. Every time I walk past the junction of Waring Street and Hill Street someone has moved the cones.
I’ve started potting them back.
We should all work together.
We should all be putting the cones back.

This morning I am wiping away my child's anxious tears. Unlike Child 1 or 2 today's post will not affect her life path or how people treat her AT ALL. She's a gentle soul tho so she's nervous because of all the expectation that everyone puts on this. It's so wrong
#FuckTheAQE
Long time coming.
It’s mad. Literally hundreds of people have been lobbying for this for years. Studies done. Consultations. Reports. Loads of time and effort by loads of people to no effect.
Then a minister just does it. Overnight. This place is fucking mad.

What about people who work beside this?
What about those with autism?
But also acoustics are as important as visuals for decent city centre quality of life. This civic square should be a place to congregate, not where they have to run past in 30 secs to get away from the noise.
This morning I kissed my love and wished her to be my Valentine. ‘You stink of booze she said. You can’t drive my kids to school’ Due to work and stuff I’ve barely seen her since but Christ she’s an incredible woman without whom I would be a shell of a human. Deep deep love. ❤️
I'm hesitant to post this as it seems so mad, but the woman at the till in front of me last night was saying she'd lost both her parents in the last week to Covid. In two days of each other. One was 69.
'They wouldn't get vaccinated' she said, as exasperated as she was in shock.
And lo, it came to pass, that the only festival left actually happening in real life was a street art festival called Hit the North.
And the people did thirst for colour and craic and they did come to see the wondrous transformation of Kent Street and they saw that it was good.
How does Arlene expect Barnier to understand the Unionist position on Brexit?
I'm from a unionist background and have listened to her party's statements on the matter for two years AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT!
And lo, it came to pass, that tales of Belfast’s horrendous planning spread across the land, reaching as far as the London review of Books.
…(Like no one’s even written a book about it and they’re talking about it)
‘The city centre of Belfast is littered with the carcasses of stalled or failed development projects, while long-empty buildings, some historic and beautiful, some precious dumps, fall into dereliction.’
Holly Connolly on the ‘regeneration’ of Belfast:
Sometimes I look back at the time I spent at the Waterfront Hall with regret.
Then I remember I sat at the back of the Auditorium and watched Ennio Morricone perform The Ecstasy of Gold live and how I cried at it's sheer magnificence. Like nothing else I've seen before or since
A personal short thread in support of the strike…
Mum has COVID.
Her chest is sore.
Doc told her that if it didn’t stop she needed to go to A&E.
It hasn’t, but she’d ‘rather die than go to A&E’ having spent 14 hrs in an ambulance waiting just to get INTO A&E with my Dad.
Don't plan to do anything next Thursday: The mass strike will devastate both private and public sectors. Unions are in militant mood, with one union leader telling me he supports blocking roads & occupying buildings.

Last night my family & I binge watched the last 3 Eps of Derry Girls. Loved the universalism and hope in the final moments. Then wake up to this horrible news. Sometimes I wonder why any of us stay here.
One last thing about tonight's Triboka decision. I've mentioned already that
@AineGroogan
was a star.
I was proud to be a
@GreenPartyNI
member tonight. How about we elect people in future on their ability to understand complex issues as opposed to what flag they're wrapped in.
Hi everyone out there who works in festivals in Belfast.
Be interested to know you're thoughts on BCC's decision to hand a further £200,000 to Féile an Phobail with no process or application procedure at all
The Exchange & Assembly Rooms (1769) is our oldest public building. We can’t let the Tr*b*ca developers turn it into another hotel.
It’s too important historically and politically for our city and once it’s gone, it’s gone for good
@SaveCQBelfast
I may be still drunk, but today, suddenly, I’m overcome with a longing for the communion of strangers.
When this is all over can we all meet and sing and hold hands and shout at the tops of our voices with our hands in the air?
I miss it so much I could cry.
Hey everyone, I know your feed is full of people telling you to vote but I'd like to add one more point.
Voting isn't always about winning. It's about having a voice.
My constituency is a two horse race - DUP vs APNI
My desire in this election is to show my disgust with the DUP
Aged 16 I watched the entire Free Mandela concert. This un-billed, filler spot by Tracy Chapman hit me like a train and is by a distance my most vivid memory of the day. She became a superstar overnight as I and millions of others went out and bought her LP off the back of it.
Been wondering why the event I've been running for 11 years has started to just EMPTY at 10 when we used to be rammed right up to 11.
Venue manager it's the same with all the gigs.
I know I've pretty much stopped using cabs since covid and rely on the bus so yeah... modern city?

Fringe is like a mad festival that you would normally have to camp in a field to go to.
Only weirder. And more ambitious. And way cheaper. And with better better. And all proceeds going to charity.
Look at this timetable!
It's incredible!
Couldn’t agree more.
Unfortunately we may not have it for long. Stormont being dark has put planned DFC investment (matched by BCC) in the hands of a civil servant who has refused to sign it off.
BCC funds get withdrawn early 2020 if not matched. It will close almost immediately
Hey everyone, now that I'm not at CNB anymore people often ask me 'So what do you actually do now?' The answer is lots of things but rarely does something feel as significant as those early CNB years.
Tomorrow night tho... This feels important.. come and be part of it.
In all seriousness what is in the mind of someone voting for the DUP or SF today?
How could you possibly look at the shit show that is our country right now and think 'Yep, more of the same please'

it's great to know that Anna has been paid for the two (or is it three) amazing pieces she's done in Belfast.
Fun Fact I realised today -
I love my city so much, every public facing, outdoor mural I've made in Birmingham to date, has been unpaid.
I think some ppl assume it's all commissioned and paid for by local businesses. It isn't.

(while we're at it can we ban amplified busking pronto?)
I think they should pedestrianise Royal Avenue while the Bank Buildings get sorted. Flood it with food vendors, stalls, music and seating. Make use of the tragedy. I'd love to sit in the middle of Royal Ave and eat a sandwich.

Joining us on the BBC today is a scientist explaining why masks are a pretty good idea.
And for 'balance' here's an utter fucktard who says he feels fine without one.
Today I tweeted the 6 main party candidates in E Belfast & asked them their party's position on studio space. I guess I didn't really expect them to have a defined party position but I wanted to raise the issue & start a conversation about how govt can help.
An ongoing thread...
I spent most of the week in town around High Street and Anne Street.
Something weird is going on.
The number of people off their heads is off the chart.
I have no idea about why but we have a drug problem that’s getting out of control. I hope the appropriate people are on it.
ANY new development in the CQ MUST have the rebuilding of the Arcade at it's heart. It may not make sense if you want to make a fast buck but it makes sense for everyone living in Belfast economically, socially and structurally.
"The Cathedral Quarter is a hub of activity and development. At its heart remains the scorched husk of the North Street Arcade. Belfast's arts community may have been burnt out, but they're circling, awaiting a return to the cultural quarter they helped make a success."

Can't even begin to tell you how cross I am about this utter cluster fuck. How much longer must our creative sector be led by such idiots? Consistently delivering interesting, challenging and important work, then thrown to the wolves over pennies. Fuck this.
So you

I’ve come all the way to Italy and they’re parading outside my house. No-one minds though because the parade is celebrating meatballs not killing Catholics
A heard a good thing. So I'm sharing to break the doom.
40 yo guy works on airport road. At noon gets call from his wife who's booked his vaccine for 1pm as soon as it was open to 40-45s.
He walks up to the SSE on his lunch and is back at work by 2pm vaccinated.
Yay humans.
Just warning everyone. I’m pretty close to going postal. If I hear one more journalist talk about shutting certain sections of the economy as if everything is back open again when tens of thousands of people in the creative sector HAVE NEVER OPENED UP AGAIN, I might lose my shit.
I felt that it was important that I got onto Nolan this morning to share my experiences a youth worker of 20 years & does it end when some kid dies?
Don't think we can get to you today was the reply. Is it the same voices continually amplified, is this all we offer? Words matter
My 80yo Mum & Dad have been isolating since I gave them a talking to on Monday. Uncharacteristically she's been phoning every day. Last night I said 'Hold on I'll call you back' & called her on FaceTime.
She was 'What witchcraft is this?' but the face to face contact was so impt
If, like me, you break your arm off, the NHS still works, but if you have elderly relatives relying on the NHS it’s a different story & to my eyes it’s deteriorating exponentially.
So yeah, I’ll be standing with the workers on Thurs, cause the system is on the verge of collapse.
Hello everyone,
Just a quick note to say that when the bureaucrats at BCC come for 2RA, (and they will, under the guise of economics), we must grab our pitch forks and chase those wankers back down the road to Adelaide House.
Judges Comments:
