I heard an unsubstantiated rumor that Unity will cap their rev % at 4%. We know Epic does 5%. I wonder why people are not going bananas about Steam taking 30%. Unity and Epic contribute amazing engines. Steam is a store with a distribution engine boltend on. I don't get it.
I seriously considered not releasing Gaia 23 today because an engine bug would give our customers a bad experience, which would then be blamed on us. And I wake up to the lastest hamfisted bungle that screws the entire community that made the engine great. Unbelievable.
This latest move from
@unity
lacks integrity. It is based on an univited black box tracker, that nobody has visibility into, that then magically spits out a number that developers pay every month. This is just wrong on so many levels.

GeNa Pro lands soon. This was done in a click. Terrain shaped, unique automated layout with modular component assembly, automatic lighting. Rivers, roads, forests, villages, and more. Its a game changer for world generation!

Added a new capability to Gaia / Pro 2021 for this... the background terrain is a low poly mesh.. i randomly generated a terrain, converted to mesh, turned into prefab, and then added back as a background... coming in next release of Gaia!

In past few weeks we achieved earth scale environment rendering (its crazy), mapping integration, procedural cities, procedural dungeons, and simple runtime editing, all mmo enabled, and all crazily render accelerated. Want to know more? Contact me :)
We only succeed when you succeed. Our 5% royalty model only kicks in after your first $1M in gross revenue, meaning that if you make $1,000,001 you owe us 5 cents. And this is per title!
Also, revenue generated from the Epic Games Store will be excluded from that 5% royalty.
This is in sync with what I have heard from others at Unity. The average indie game dev is either not affected or better off. A storm in a teacup caused by extremely poor messaging.
