Alas, I have lost my check mark. Be assured that it is still I, THE Aarron Fleming. Two As, two Rs. I should hope that no one would want to steal my identity but just in case.
We had a good run.
I’ve been
@DailyMemphian
for one year today.
I was the intern that refused to leave.
I’ve had a wild time covering the Memphis education issues and I’m excited for what’s next.
Here’s to another year!
Excited to share that last week I accepted a full-time position
@DailyMemphian
as its newest education reporter!
Happy to be starting my pro career in the brutiful land in the world, MEMPHIS, and as always, DM me with tips and story ideas.
Let’s change the world, friends.
And after two long days of hearings involving a local basketball star that have put my live tweeting skills to the test, I have now reached 901 followers.
Thank you all 😂
I teased it before but since my first day was today, I guess there’s no better time to officially announce it.
I’ll be at the
@DailyMemphian
this summer as a news intern.
I’m excited to get to work and learn from such incredibly talented people!
Tips welcome. DMs are open.
“As her friend and co-worker Geoff Calkins wrote in a column about Biggs not long after she announced her diagnosis, “She brings people together. Around Memphis and food. And laughter. And friendship. Maybe friendship most of all.”
Incredibly heartbroken.
*sigh* This is the last time the
@DailyHelmsman
will feature the words managing editor and my name together.
Working for the paper made my college experience and changed the direction my life was going.
Forever grateful 🤙🏻
As we soon move into 2022, a reflection.
Some cool things I did:
-Graduated college
-Got my first daily news org. internship
-Got hired three weeks later and started my professional reporting career
-Moved out on my own
(1/ however long I decide to make this)
FINALLY got my
@uofmemphis
degree in the mail. Now that I’m a full time reporter, I’m just really happy to know this thing paid off 😂
Thanks for the knowledge
@ccfamemphis
and
@MemphisJRSM
!!
“Midtown residents often describe the Union Avenue Kroger’s parking lot as a ring of hell in Dante’s Inferno. That may be.”
Thank you for this line
@samhardiman
😂
Bout to have these loans cancelled babbbbyyyy.
Also, in line with my work, this is me informing you that the application is now in fact open.
Join me on the debt-free side of life.
Some shots from today’s protest led by
@DevanteRHill
calling for reforms in the wake of
#tyrenichols
death.
I brought a spare battery today so I actually got to use my camera instead of phone.
@blockbuster
Who runs this page? Did Blockbuster sell its Twitter when it went down? Or does its social media person still get paid a salary? I have so many questions 😂
LOOKING FOR SOURCES:
I’m looking into complaints filed against campus police officers at the University of Memphis.
If you’ve ever filed a complaint against a campus police officer, even if you’re not a student, I’d love to talk about it.
Feel free to shoot me a message.
Full story from the walk out at Crosstown today; happy with how this came out and glad to see so many students engaged in advocacy work and pushing for things they want to see get done.

BIG NEWS:
Alicia Franklin is suing the

Police Department for failing to arrest Cleotha Abston for allegedly attacking her last year.
Abston is the man also accused of kidnapping and killing

Being a journalist is reaching out to someone while you're still in college and just now getting a response. I don't even remember what I was writing about.
Changed my mind and I’m starting this guy tonight as my next read. If you’ve read it, I’d love your thoughts!
Overall, I’m in a huge learning period right now and I’d be so down to talk M-town ed. with anyone in the know. Call, email, or hit those DMs ❤️🤙🏻

Memphis now may be the nation’s largest majority-Black city and local leaders say the milestone should be a catalyst for change

I’ve been studying up on education issues lately to get up to speed and I picked this up at the literacy conference

recently held.
I highly recommend.

Journalism has definitely been the agent of personal growth for me. It’s done a lot to help me with my anxiety and things like that because I’m forced to talk to strangers all the time 😂
Just pulled up to Kroger and a pair of flip flops were in my parking space.
Hoping I didn’t steal someone’s spot who walked here and decided this is where they’d park their shoes.
Additional body-cam footage released today of the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols last year includes one officer saying that his killing would be “justified” and others expressing concern about the tactics of the SCORPION unit the officers were a part of.
Despite coming from different professional worlds and from different countries, both Keesha Greer-Effs and Karna Venkatraj wound up as teachers at Getwell Elementary in Parkway Village. Read more:

Day 2 of the Ja Morant immunity hearings:

Joshua Holloway and Davonte Pack are also expected to testify.
Both are present in the courtroom.
Ja finished yesterday and was told he did not have to come back.

I had to get up at 5am but it was totally worth it to watch the start of the 2022

Balloon Fest.
I really missed getting out and shooting with my camera.
Today's going to be a good day.
Today officially marks one year since I published my first article ever which also happened to be my first with
@DailyHelmsman
. Joining the team was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Read it while I go cry.
The day I change my bio and make it official that I have indeed *switched to courts full-time* and the

board gets sued in federal court.
Here’s a quick read.
Also, I cover courts now. There’s my announcement.
We celebrated my great-grandmother’s 100th birthday today at the church she’s been attending since she was a baby.
She received a handwritten note from

I sat down and talked with him about the book and where the indie film industry is today.

After such an ungodly amount of Taco Bell consumed in the last little while, I believe that it is only time before I, too, become a Nachos Bell Grande.
Burritos and Baja blasts are truly the only way I stay a reporter.
Press conference is now starting. Kevin Ritz, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee and and Kristin Clarke with the DOJ have announced federal crimes indictments against the five officers accused of killing Tyre Nichols in January.
I set a goal last year to hit 500 followers on here by the end of the year. I knew I’d be using the bird more often as a professional journo so I wanted to beef up my presence.
A couple days off but I hit it today 😭
Thank you
@JohnCena

“Additionally, he said, many school boards are thinking about ways they can get ahead of records requests by making more information public at board meetings.”

On the anniversary of my one year, I present the business cards I made my for myself before I got real ones 😂
I just found the design file by accident.
Let’s be honest: the notecard idea was killer
Recent bills filed by Sen. Brent Taylor aim to repeal local bail reform efforts in light of concerns over crime in the city.
But crime is trending down, per recent data, and critics say the bills could ultimately be unconstitutional.
Federal prosecutors have filed the first indictment under the new Violent Crime Initiative launched here last year- an effort to combat local organized crime.
The indictment is fascinating: it details a gang structure that includes membership applications, among other things.
Three alleged members of the Unknown Vice Lords/Ghost Mob gang were indicted on new charges for their suspected role in the death of a man last year.

Another scoop from

:
Charles Morris has been identified as one of 13 previously unnamed MPD officers facing departmental charges over Tyre Nichols’ death.
They were dropped, per Morris, and he retired in March after 40 years.
Change of plans, friends. I am now at the
@VanForMemphis
party where I will be stationed for the remainder of the night. I will be getting my groove on and covering the D2 race from here.
Stay “tuned”.
BREAKING NEWS:
#MSCS
deputy superintendent John Barker has been put on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into a complaint that was levied against him.
His suspension was confirmed today by MSCS board chair, Michelle McKissack.
Updates and full story coming.
Mickell Lowrey, the Chairman of the Shelby County Board of Commissioners announced that a special meeting will be held to determine whether or not to reinstate Justin J. Pearson.
When I moved into my first apartment, I had one coffee mug that says Mosul in bold on the side. Any DVDs we had as a kid were bootleg copies my dad bought in Iraq. I keep my change in a vase he bought there.
It's been 20 years and I'm thinking of him.
I didn’t think I’d ever say the phrase:
“Denzel Washington made me want to be a investigative reporter again”
But Denzel Washington just made me want to be an investigative reporter again.
Journalism movies rock.
New charges filed against man accused of kidnapping
#ElizaFletcher
. They do not appear to be related to her disappearance. They stem from separate theft where Abston stole a wristlet and used the victim’s cards to make illegal purchases.
