@CatasusAina 5000 items, IIRC. I paid to upgrade, and I'm already at 5206 in my main library, plus a few hundred more in my audio, video and magazine libraries.

@DarynFaulkner I don't mind if a book uses American spellings and punctuation. I don't mind if a book uses British spellings and punctuation. But mix them and I'll want to stab my eyes out.

@SusanSavageLee1 Pay attention to real people (unless your character is a dog, then pay attention to dogs).

@the_erik_doran @ChrystalMAuthor And yet, the ones in Chinese were just straight up right there...though often so badly mispronounced that I couldn't quite figure out what they were trying to say!

@ChrystalMAuthor If you want those readers, take them out. If those aren't the readers you want, leave them in. There are a lot of people who don't like profanity in their reading, but maybe you're not trying to sell to that block of readers.

@lhallwriter Well, I've only actually read Huck Finn and Dorian Gray. Of those two, Dorian. Dracula and Pride and Prejudice are on my reading list for this year.

@HLDocherty Thought #1: GAHHHH!!! Thought #2: The publisher of the magazines I write for won't allow semicolons because they "look stuffy." She also won't allow any punctuation on the covers, and since the article titles go on the cover...

@ELChandler5 @Orchidoptera Also, there is a book I remember seeing at Half Price Books years ago. It's a collection of rejection letters sent to the most famous writers in the Western Canon, telling them their most famous works were unpublishable dreck. I think every writer should see some of those letters

@ELChandler5 @JoeEvener "You have a really good plot here, but the characters are not strong enough to carry that plot. You need to think more about your characters and get to know them better before you start your second draft of this story."
