To parents of youth pitchers, . Please stop telling your kids to push off with their back leg. That cue alone has caused so many kids be terrible at rotating. While we’re at it, let’s keep all the mechanical advice to a minimum. In almost all cases it does more harm than good.

I see a lot of people on twitter ripping people for using a radar gun on young kids. I use a radar with every youth player I work with. You know why? Bc they absolutely love it, and baseball is supposed to be fun. Keep chuckin’ and having fun little guys and girls.

First day of HS tryouts and already got a text from a player saying he was 84-86 and threw great. Pumps me up. He is a 2022 who was topping 76 in October. Completely bought in to @EBA_MADE lifting program and worked his tail off all winter at @mach1baseball.

A lot of players will find excuses to not get work in during this tough time. It’s no surprise that some of my best ones have continued to work and find ways to get stuff done. Don’t let the last 6 months of work go to waste, it doesn’t take long to lose everything U worked for.

In September of 2017, when Ian Lohse started training at @mach1baseball, his long term goal was to be able to throw in the 80s off the mound. In 2.5 years, he is now sitting low 90s, and has struck out 35 of 41 batters he’s faced this summer. He has worked harder than any kid

Can’t say I’m surprised by this at all considering how he works. It’s not that he just works hard, it’s the most FOCUSED work I’ve ever seen. I have a feeling the list of accomplishments are gonna be very long for him when his career is over.

A perfect example of when specializing in 1 sport instead of playing multiple sports paid off. He decided to quit playing basketball this yr bc he knew he needed to gain a bunch of weight to become a D1 level baseball player. He Gained 40lbs this off-season,that is not possible.

This is a result of showing up 3 times a week for 6 months, arriving early and staying late. There were times he was frustrated but he never stopped working. Turned himself into a legit D1 prospect. Consistency is key. Good stuff @_MichaelStrong_.

All of this is so spot on. # 5 is something that baffles me all the time. Stop going to showcases when you throw 78mph. I feel like #7 is a huge part of that. Kids and parents don’t know any better, it’s up to us coaches to give them good advice.
No amount of social media self promotion fluff will undo a lackluster off-season, bad work ethic or questionable choices.

Exactly!! It’s not good enough to just show up once or twice a week and think that’s enough. Gaining velo is hard. If you’re not lifting( sport specific lifting), eating enough food, getting sleep, and throwing outside of the facility, be prepared to be disappointed.
It’s mind blowing how many players will sign up for a throwing program with goal of adding velo but won’t participate in the lifting portion of the program, then act disappointed by the results. “Coach I did their program for months and it didn’t work.” . No, you didn’t work.

So many highschool pitchers just live on the outside corner and are afraid to pitch Inside. His numbers show what happens when you consistently pound the inner third and make hitters extremely uncomfortable.

It’s amazing how many college programs still believe in this. Hopefully these next two months at home will give some of these players a chance to gain back what they lost the first couple months training like cross country runners.
. or at least that’s how it SHOULD be. This is NOT the year to run your athletes til they puke. It’s not the right thing to do any year, but I promise you that throwing up in November “conditioning” sessions has absolutely nothing to do with winning in May.

This same player had many of the same resources available to him last offseason and didn’t see many results. The difference? He completely changed his work ethic, saw some results, and then became addicted. Seeing gains in velo and in the weightroon becomes addicting.

I doubt this kid has ever had much instruction on his throwing mechanics. Kids that try to throw the ball hard since they were really young always wind up with a beautiful motion like this. Most bad mechanics are taught. Throw it hard and let the body organize itself.
This is a pull-down. I believe pull-downs are good because learning how to move fast WHILE sequencing the throw is good. Throwing 68 mph as an 11 year old is also. good? #WontTransfer

Tried to have all of our pitchers this past off-season keep a journal. It’s no surprise the ones who kept up with it happen to be the best players. Being able to look back at a day or week when things were going great and see what changed, was huge for making quicker adjustments.
Keeping a journal or notebook on your throwing sessions is vital. Trying to get better or even make the microscopic movement change? . You’ll get there much quicker by remember the cues and tricks that worked previously. @unconquerablept

Just keeps getting better and better every time out. Not only does he have nasty stuff, but when you watch him on the mound he has the look that he knows he’s going to get you out. A common trait with dominant pitchers.

Congrats @bbrantingham22. Great example of what training in-season can do. While many kids slow down or stop training, Bowen managed to train 2-3 days a week all summer while playing a full schedule. Had a goal in mind and worked his butt off until he achieved it. Awesome stuff.
