I am convinced that a well spotted inside fastball is the best pitch in high school baseball. Can be an out pitch or jam most high school hitters. Pitcher can not be scared to go inside. This is my opinion, yours may vary.

Catchers I watched 8 17u games today. In only 1 game did the catcher stand in front of home plate lift his mask up and communicate the situation with the team! You have to be vocal. It means more than you think to be loud and be heard

High school and college players... Do yourself a favor and go coach a younger kid or team. 1)You find that you will learn more about yourself and may figure some things out that you have been working on yourself. 2)The kids will listen intently to you 3)You will be giving back

Catchers..... a 2 second video of how to simply create tempo of the game. Swing, miss, catch, throw it back, on to the next pitch. Tempo is 1 of the most important things you can create. 2 seconds is all it has to take. No reason to slow anything down if it doesn’t has to be slowed

So many people talk about blue collar and have no idea what it truly means. The fanciest thing I have is a pitching machine but have everything I need. I’ve even had some decide not to train here. I will get my own indoor facility some day soon! I supply the bug spray for now!

My favorite receiver and also leader receiver in MLB. Turning balls into strikes. Get low. Extension to flexion or roll of the thumb. If he would have left the glove where he caught the ball it would have been called a ball.

Players...after a workout, a practice, a lesson, whenever you do something with another person... shake the coaches hand and say thank you. It takes 3 seconds and means more than you think to the coaches. Try it and watch a smile or nod happen.

1 of the most important statements I’ve heard is… “a stance gives you a chance” I’ve seen people almost get offended when I talk to them about their stance. Your stance/stances should be helping you receive block and throw and should never hinder your ability to do all 3

What do coaches mean when they say catch the bottom half of the ball? -Left: he starts below but catches the ball directly on top because his elbow is not working as a unit w/ the rest of his arm -Right: elbow up allows thumb to be down and catch the bottom of the ball

Fall ball is what you make of it. If you want to work on things then work on things. Don’t abandon those things you are working on because you didn’t have instant success. Fall ball should be a process and to see what you need to work on the most in the off season.

You see it all the time at this time of the year. Team workouts start and coaches work with hitters, pitchers and infielders non stop, some outfield and the catchers are either catching bullpens or catching up for the coach. Find a coach that can help your catchers get work in!

You need to realize no matter how hard your pitcher throws, no matter how strong your arm is, if your pitcher is to slow to the plate you will never get the runner stealing second. Yes it’s a stolen base but it’s not always your fault. Let them know. Sometimes they don’t realize

Many many things to talk about with this clip. I will use this clip later as well. For now watch how Yaz goes to the ball before it leaves the zone even more ie “extension”, straight arm. As he catches the ball he comes to “flexion” bent arm. Glove aligned with elbow. Beautiful!

Most only see the throw. What I see is an amazing play by Coastal’s catcher. Watch how he dekes the runner by simply acting like the ball is not coming to him. That causes the runner to not slide and to tag him out. Coastal won this game by 1 so this play mattered more.

Have seen some guys lately trying extension to flexion and over exaggerating the thumb roll. Should look like the first 2 rolls NOT the second 2. 2nd 2 rolls the thumb is being rolled at an angle to the sky and makes the glove go vertical. Small roll to your body is all you need

Question for coaches. Would you rather have a really good defense catcher and a hitter w/ potential to be elite or a not so good catcher but with potential to be good but a great hitter? Which side is easier to develop in your eyes? No switching positions that’s the easy answer

I LOVE back picks. Do them early and often but most of all, with intent. What that tells the runner is that you are not scared to throw. So in turn he will be careful on his secondary. He gets a bad secondary maybe he isn’t able to take an extra base on a hit. Small things.

My true thoughts on traditional blocking vs 1 knee blocking... in game, I don’t give a s#*! how you block it as long as 1)You don’t get hurt 2)The runner/runners don’t advance. Some will be ugly some will be picture perfect, just get it done. Train hard and be great in game.

Being in shape and being in “catching” shape or 2 different things. Make sure your legs are ready to endure the beginning of the season. Of catching bullpens are one thing but you can use a machine and even just continue to work getting into and out of your stances on your own.

Catchers stop wasting time during I/O by only practicing bunts or catching up for coach. Get as much in as you can. Block recover throw/ throw to a base/ receive/ footwork. So many things can be done in a short period of time. You should already be warmed up before you start I/O

Catchers if your coach wants the team to warm up together, understandably, you have to find time to get extra warm up time yourself. With colder weather in the north it may feel like it takes longer. Arms, hips, etc. When game starts you should be 100% warmed up and ready to go!

I really like this very easy late and quiet set up. Catcher sets up as the pitchers starts to move. Not set up to early so you get stiff and anxious before the pitch. Easy movements. I don’t know what @D1catching or @tannerswanson works on specially but I love this set up.

Let the ball be your feedback. If the ball goes up you are working low to high. Not trying to make strikes just getting self feedback. ‘26 @Pow25Logan from @pax_baseball putting in the work.

So if the whole college baseball season gets cancelled what happens to everyone on the teams now eligibility and incoming recruits and scholarship money? Way to quick and way to much of an over reaction in my opinion.

Catchers, remember you can control the pace of the game more than you think. Either use the good emotions by keeping the pace or slowing everything down by taking a trip to the mound just for a breather. Control the situation

Catching will always be my favorite and #1 thing to coach but when I can get 2 of 3 of my boys outside hitting and helping each other, there is nothing like it. Brothers helping brothers. Come hit with us.

Coaches if you are consistently complaining about balls and strikes and to the ump to call the game both ways, chances are it’s your catcher and the way he is receiving the ball. Understand the difference between bad umpiring and bad receiving.

I normally try to be positive with my posts but heard this to much from parents/coaches lately... “the catcher is lazy since he is on one knee”. Just stop. You make yourself sound stupid! It’s not for everyone, and there is a purpose. Just stop with the “lazy” nonsense

Proud dad moment when 2 of the 5 players to watch from Huntingtown, in the game of the week, belong to you!
