Congresswoman Lauren @RepBoebert presented members of the #DCSO Cold Case Unit with a Congressional Recognition Award for their pivotal work in solving a 39-year-old homicide. The Congresswoman recognized Sergeant Mark O'Harold, Corporal Mike Trindle, and Crime Analyst Supervisor Michele Kennedy. Captain Kennedy accepted on Michele's behalf. She also recognized the efforts of the DCSO IMPACT unit for the legwork they did to assist the Cold Case Unit. Roger Dean was brutally murdered on November 21st, 1985. The case went unsolved for almost 36 years, but due to the Cold Case Unit's relentless work, they were able to identify a suspect. Michael Jefferson, age 67 now, was arrested in 2021. Earlier this month, he pleaded and was sentenced to 32 years in prison. Roger Dean's daughter, Tamara Harney, was present for the recognition. Sheriff Darren Weekly spoke of the tireless work of the Cold Case Unit. He recognized them for seeking justice, bringing closure to families, and ensuring no victim is ever forgotten. He reassured all the families of our other Cold Case homicides that the team continues to work hard to bring justice to the cases that are unsolved at the present time. To see the full ceremony:

"I want this to be the safest jurisdiction in Colorado. If at the end of four years, people have forgotten who the DA is because nothing ever happens out here, that's a win."-- DA George Brauchler to @TomMustin in 1st podcast for the 23rd Judicial District Attorney's Office.

Killer gets 32 years in prison for 1985 home invasion murder. Excellent work by the @dcsheriff's office and prosecutor Corrie Caler with the @23rdColorado. #Justice @GeorgeBrauchler
After nearly 40 years, a cold case out of Lone Tree has been closed, but a major snag — which is likely to impact other cases — forced the judge to hand down a much leaner sentence than what victims had hoped.
