I've always had a lot of respect for Cam Newton the player, and I am smiling ear to ear as he takes a minute to fill a major context void for an often nuance-free sports talk industry
Bryce Young is embracing Charlotte already, recently agreeing to a partnership with the legendary restaurant Bojangles. Spoke with the Panthers franchise QB about that and how he's preparing for his first NFL training camp for

Four years ago today, Cam Newton, behind a remarkable pulling block from Andrew Norwell, clinched a Panthers playoff berth.
I miss this. Especially that blocking.
Cam Newton has 227 yards of offense today. The Panthers finished with 275 net yards of offense. Newton was responsible for their two touchdowns, and one of their 2pt plays. He was under relentless pressure all day, so I’m just saying, take everything into consideration.
Never forget: Steve Wilks recessitated the Panthers’ entire culture in mere weeks.
I’m dead serious.
One of the most influential people in franchise history.
2015 League MVP Cam Newton was ridiculed and mocked by folks for years, including some clowns in the media, for having a unique fashion taste.
Oh well, good for Joe. Not his fault.
Happy 8/25, y’all.
Cam Newton’s first career preseason touchdown: August 25, 2011
Bryce Young’s first career preseason touchdown: August 25, 2023
A dozen years ago, to the day.
It’s Cardinals week, so let’s get nostalgic.

Cam Newton with two of the most dominant back-to-back plays you’ll ever see. That third down conversion run was just unbelievable.
Look at the energy in that stadium.
What a night. (🎥: FOX/NFL)

The Carolina Panthers need to make sure Cam Newton, and only Cam Newton, bangs the

drum before his first game back at BOA.
This is an absolute no-brainer, get it done.
It’s Panthers v Giants Week.
Week 14, 2015
“The Nod”
Cam Newton leads the unbeaten Panthers on a 48-yard march, connecting with three receivers, while running for a pair of first downs.
Graham Gano’s 43-yard boot capped off Carolina’s 18th straight regular season win .
Panthers spoil ATL.
17 plays
90 yards
0 penalties
7:35 drive
Bryce Young leads his second career game-winning drive, featuring a TRIO of 19+ yd passes to the boundary in the rain.
Panthers 9, Falcons 7
Those kind of drives are huge for his development. Tremendous stuff.
Cam Newton's most impressive attribute: being genuinely hated by a sizable chunk of the tight-ass self-righteous demographic of sports fans since the laptop deal at Florida
The hate fueled:
2010 BCS Title (w/ 0 future NFL players on offense)
2010 Heisman (one-man band)
2011
From the Falcons/Panthers archives:
Cam Newton energizing both sides of the ring as the Panthers blanked Atlanta.
Objectively, this is one of the funniest clips in Panthers history.
Steve Wilks did a tremendous job here. (And I mean that)
My heart goes out to him.
I don’t know what’s next for big Steve, but he’s more than deserving of an opportunity.
I’d give Cam Newton a quick call. There is nothing on the roster, healthy or otherwise, better than Newton. Chemistry with McCaffrey in the run game, chemistry with DJ in the passing game, quick study on offenses. Not as a novelty, either. *mutes convo*
I don’t know what the plan is for this Carolina franchise, or what they’re ultimately trying to do on so many levels.
Asking loyal Panthers fans to say goodbye to Cam Newton TWICE in a 23 month span is next-level clusterfuckery.
I will never forget this image of Sam Mills, dealing with intensive cancer treatment, sweating at the podium, but answering every question gracefully during his pre-Super Bowl 38 press avail.
It wasn’t always a hashtag. This was a legendary man.
Authenticity.
All business, no excuses, results-oriented.
From 1-15 to the Super Bowl in 24 months. Nobody ever had to explain a process, or sell their brand.
Don’t talk about it. Be about it.
It bothers me they went out of their way to release Cam Newton (with relative arrogance), which you can decide on your own if that was the right thing to do or not, but their quest for a quarterback since then has been absolutely embarrassing.
I guess my main takeaway would be this:
When the winning happens again, embrace and savor it.
Between Dec 2014 - Dec 2015, the Panthers won 18 consecutive regular season games.
Remarkable.
Winning is extraordinarily hard. Start with 1, build on it.
#Panthers
QB Sam Darnold on the offensive struggles: "Bottom line, everyone's not playing good enough. Me, Cam, everyone on offense. We're not playing good enough to win games."
Please send along some positive vibes and prayers if you can.
I won't be in Charlotte today, my wife Olivia was checked into the ER yesterday. She's been sick for the majority of the week, and her blood pressure was unusually low.
Turns out, it's kidney related, but nothing

Wilks is a legacy guy. Charlotte native. Extremely well respected around league. Was here during the Rivera/playoff days, understands the true culture and history of this franchise. Results matter, but this is a good foundational move for Carolina. Hope he gets a true evaluation.
You don’t see Steve Wilks whining about not getting seven years, or whining about his personnel, or making excuses. Though, he would have every reason to do such. Carolina was absolutely blessed to have him. A complete contrast from what he took over—mindset and messaging.
