For the past few weeks our lion Kamaia has been recovering from medical procedures. Today he needed follow up surgery after some of his sutures opened. The surgery went well, and he continues to recover in his off-exhibit space. More on Facebook:

In order to maintain maximum cute (and get proper nutrition), red pandas need to eat more than eight pounds of bamboo every day. That's about ten freshly-cut 3-foot stalks of bamboo a day!

While this youngster is still bonding with mum, it is old enough now to eat solid food. Sloths eat mostly vegetation, preferring buds, tender shoots and leaves. Forsythia leaves were on the menu today.
