Slant in news coverage can be easier to spot than bias in selecting what to cover. A machine learning study of vaccine news over the last six years quantifies both selection and narrative biases in news outletsāand analyses consumption. In PNAS Nexus:

Our results reveal how certain media outlets show significantĀ selection biasĀ (favoring certain types of events) andĀ narrative biasĀ (framing stories in a particular way), highlighting how questionable and reliable news sources present opposing narratives around vaccine news.
