He was playing baseball at Kentucky and was also on the Wildcats’ basketball roster in 2019-20.
This week last year, Montana Fouts was pitching for East Carter in the state semifinals. Today, she’s shut out top-ranked Oklahoma for five innings in the WCWS semifinals.

Joe Hampton, the longest-tenured active boys basketball coach in the 16th Region, is retiring from that position at Lewis County and as the school’s athletic director. Hampton coached the Lions to 279 wins, eight district titles and two region runner-up finishes in 21 years.
Breaking: Chad Tackett is Ashland’s new head football coach, per Tomcats AD Jim Conway.
Tackett was a longtime defensive coordinator under former Ashland coach Tony Love and also formerly Fairview’s head coach.

East Carter baseball coach Jeremiah Shearer, Lawrence County coach Travis Feltner and Johnson Central skipper Shawn Hall are being inducted into the state baseball coaches association Hall of Fame on Friday in Louisville, confirms Shearer.

Fleming County senior Buddy Morgan died this morning, according to a post his mother made on Facebook and Panthers football coach Bill Spencer shared. Morgan was in an auto accident with his brother on May 15 after his Senior Day baseball game for Fleming County

Joe Hampton knew long ago he would retire from teaching in 2020. The way the most recent Lewis County boys basketball season ended made the next part easier. On the retirement of the longest-tenured active coach in the 16th Region
George Stout, a former Daily Independent employee who has attended 71 of the last 72 16th Region Tournaments, is honored between quarters. He assembles the tournament programs.
Greenup County cheerleading coach Candy Berry is being inducted into the KHSAA Hall of Fame, per release.
In her 44 years as coach, the program has won 16 UCA national titles and eight state championships (six KAPOS, two KHSAA).
The induction is April 30 in Lexington.
With Boyd County’s win tonight, Pete Fraley stands alone as the winningest coach in 16th Region history.
He nonetheless credited the man he passed tonight, the late John “Hop” Brown, as the best coach in region history.
