A long standing synthetic mission accomplished! Big congratulations to @jishan_wu and team!
The mysterious hydrocarbon, Clar’s goblet, was finally synthesized in solution and isolated in single-crystal form. It contains two unpaired but entangled radicals, with a singlet ground state. A preprint of this work is now posted @ChemRxiv:
