i was working on a very similar tool (almost identical tbh) but never finished developing it. maybe i should and release it as FOSS, 30 pounds seems excessive

@LeleSocho i have had the same problem! all of those other findings are close but not quite right. this characterset is the correct one. you're free to open up a typesetting software of your choice and try it out!

@penemalvado oh but thats just matisse eb! its already pretty well preserved, and its not the font in question. i thought you were talking about other font collections, because those are incredibly hard to find.

@penemalvado i'd love any more info you might have on this. i found it frustratingly difficult to research japanese font history, partly because i'm not fluent in japanese, partly because a lot of it just doesn't seem to be archived.

@leodefrantos the typeface is based on a scotch roman, of which century is one of the earlier ones. it's correct that this font is based on century or at least inspired by it (as most scotch roman fonts are somewhat similar), but it is definitely not the exact font. (look at the "G")

@kot293786063029 yep! it's quite hard to find the origin of those shared charactersets though. i only found this specific set in association with nisfonts, so i assume thats where it came from.

if you want to read more about evangelion's typography, i highly recommend this article from Peiran Tan: he points out that it is a bootleg version of century schoolbook, although i find the "G" to be vastly different.
