The bus. Top cow on milk recording last week. 3.24 kg of solids on 35L. First cross cow. You just cannot beat them. Herd average 2.25kg on 25L. Heifers doing 1.99kg. Milk pump is busy these days.

Clocks gone back, 20 degree day. Cows happy, farmer happy. Still tipping along at 1.5 solids building nice cover with 2kg fodder beet and 3kg of grapes. Just a bit of rain to grow some winter feed would be a huge help. 6 weeks left milking and we’re all on holiday.👌🏻

What a difference a week makes. Snow last week, 20 degrees today. Dry cows following the milkers tidying up. You can hear the grass growing. 💪🏻

Calving is well underway. 90 calved at planned start. 17% of the way there. 20 degree days make it a bit easier. Hopefully the rest will be this handy!

10 days from planned start of calving. 3 AI calves, 3 heifers. 16 degrees today in T-shirt and shorts was mighty! Great start. Dry cows doing a mighty job cleaning out the heaviest covers.

How is it May already!? Got 10mm of rain. Lovely covers in front of the cows. 29days to dry off and then off to winter grazing! The last quarter has been a lot easier than the first three quarters of this season. On track to do target it’s just cost more in supplement!

Cold start to the morning -4 with a fog. 50 heifers drafted into a springer mob today. I can’t see them holding to due date on the 18th! Weather has been a dream for wintering stock on kale. One of my favourite heifers keeping an eye on the dog.

Motoring through! About 25% calved. Can see the light at the end of the tunnel! That was our 100th calf a couple of days ago. Milk being picked up 👌🏻Good auld reliable baling twine on a tag to ID calves in the paddock. My grandfather would love to see twine being put to good use!

Finished up with DairyNZ on Friday after a brilliant 2 years. Back to the old original with LIC as a sire analyst from Tuesday. Looking forward to the new challenge in a really interesting area where change around profit environment and sustainability are on the horizon

I started my new job just over a year ago. Delighted to get sent this photo today. A half sister to Hurworth Hot Toddy the fwd pack Kiwicross bull. Calf created from an embryo flush, sired by Julians Multiplier. The first bull pick I made on the job. Lovely finish to the week!

With the stomach pump 20L bucket, 250g limeflour, 100g mag flakes, 2L molasses, boiling water to mix and top up with colder water not to burn. Reasses at next milking- repeat and/or bag of glucose in the vein. Lost 1/530 with milk fever this spring. Missed her at night check

Had a bit of it here, limeflour, molasses, mag flakes dissolved in warm water to all your dodgy fresh calvers. Started in a wine bottle then stomach pump after 25 cows! No need for expensive buckets or fads.

You wouldn’t be doing as well as you’re doing at home, neither would i. Serious issue with succession and opportunities. Doesn’t take away from your accomplishments but we would be busy fools chasing a never to be reached carrot, working as hard- regardless of year or milk price

Off feed powder and instant coffee good stuff to add in aswell. Cheap as chips and gets rumen moving.

Hey William, JE is an integrity and FR is an American bull Hiddenhills plan. Both were randomly in two lines of cows I bought. We’re in LIC’s sire proving scheme so incalf to random nochoice bulls. Crisscross here FR to JE and JE to FR. FR will most likely be culled later on.

Tell you when I scan in a few weeks. 520 cows here so generally 3/4 bulling among the 6 bulls. Tonight is light work for them all.

Take an ear tissue sample of all cows with no sire David. All bulls in AI or genomically tested to go into AI will be on the ICBF database, parentage can be matched up. May not get them all but should tidy up a few of them.
