I ended up writing a lot of replacements in comics. Not Spider-Man but Scarlet Spider or Spider-Ock. Not Wolverine, but X-23. Not Robin, but Red Robin. Dick Grayson Batman, not Bruce Wayne. And honestly? It's better.
