Day3 at #ECI2024 plenary session bringing back to Innate immunity!
🔵🎯Insights from Plenary Session 2 at #ECI2024!💡Luke O’Neill and Steffen Jung bringing fresh perspectives to the table, here’s a recap👇 📌Innate immunity had 3 revolutions: the cytokine revolution, pattern recognition receptor revolution, and currently the metabolism revolution. ✍️The break in endosymbiosis results in mitochondrial dysfunction which is the cause of inflammatory diseases. 🔵Itaconate is requiered for IFN beta expression, drives mitochondrial RNA release and suppresses inflammation. Itaconate derivatives could be a promising treatment for inflammatory diseases. 📌Classical monocytes can be identified as slamf7 MDP derived cells and cd177 GMP derived classical monocytes. GMP classical monocytes have a neutrophil-like phenotype whereas MDP classical monocytes have a type 2 signature. 🔎Both cell types give rise to intestinal macrophages and non-classical monocytes in blood but different progeny in the lung. Macrophage origin matters. 👉Human microglia comprise blood clones, however, abundance is unclear. Mutant monocyte derived microglia contribute to CNS pathology. 🎙️A special shoutout to our chairs Arne Akbar and Meritxell Genescà for steering this insightful session 👏

#ECI2024 Second keynote talk showing us many ways to use Immunotherapy for Cancer treatment!
🔵The second Keynote of #ECI2024 was an EXTRAORDINARY session led by Prof. Tak Mak👏👏, provided an in-depth exploration of the complex interplay between metabolism, neural regulation, immunity, and cancer. 🔍 Here’s some key points: 🔑New targets in oncology: balancing the fire and water. 🔬TET2 and IDH2 mutations in hematopoietic cells induce T cell lymphoma (AITL). 🧬Metabolic adaptation, affects DNA repair and genomic instability results in immune activation affecting immnotherapy responses. 👉Acetylcholine produced by T cells controls liver cancer. 💥The neuroimmune circuit activates cholinergenic lymphocytes in cancer. 💡Serum choline levels predicts improved progression free survival in patiente receiving immunotherapy. #CancerResearch #Immunology #Metabolism #Neuroscience #KeynoteLecture
