I've been a music fan for a long time (34 years and counting lol) so you wanna talk range of emotions, I have them. Admiration, lust, obsession, attachment. But more often than not, I can view them as an artist, an entertainer, etc. I like and appreciate what they do.

Back to "appropriateness." When I see a k-pop idol on stage, I think "Wow, that is a good looking performer. They're talented and hard working and they are entertaining me." Fucking them isn't at the forethought, despite what younger fans accuse.

I was in college when I discovered k-pop. It was a time I wanted to give school my full focus. And yet I couldn 't get that SHINee song out of my head; that Super Junior song; that f(x) song. The last thing I needed was a new addiction. I DIDN'T ASK FOR THIS. But it happened.

K-pop music is good. It's fun, it's refreshing. It bridged a gap in my life. Suddenly pop music was good again. But no one knew about it but me. Or so I thought. I wasn't really worried about the reactions. I just wanted to shout "why aren't more people into this?"

I look at some idols and think "I would really like him if I was his age." You can be drawn to certain charms of people regardless of your ages. Sometimes it's just the idea of someone. If the idols are older adults, it affords more freedom of expression. Or so we thought?

I've felt this way for a while but I think young people think this is weird because they think it's just for them. Maybe they feel like grownups are treading in their safe space. But most of all, and I hear them loud and clear: they think it's inappropriate.

Are we attracted to them... sometimes. Do people go overboard with it... sometimes lol. You get to a point in your life where you are comfortable talking about your sexuality. Some people aren't there. I don't expect them to be. They're on their own journey of understanding.

A lot of my moots defend their interests with "life doesn't end at [insert age]." For some people, it does. Either they lose interest or someone tells them, it's time to move on. Prioritites change. Life happens. It doesn't mean you can't have a little enjoyment in your life.

In the 90s we didn't have the luxury of watching music videos online. We had to sit by the TV with a VCR ready to record if the new video from whoever came on. Music fans back then lacked the conveniences that musicians throw at us now.

I often wished I was an older fan. I missed many shows just because I was under the legal drinking age. I had no interest in drinking, I just wanted to see my heroes in a Toronto bar. Between that and the lack of money, sometimes concerts were out of the question.

When I was young (from the age of 15) I went to concerts all the time. Age was never a conversation or a debate waiting in line. In fact if I saw people my parents age, and it did happen, I was pleasantly surprised. I wished my parents were that cool, too.
