The day was unusually hot and bright. Taehyung was wheeling a dolly carting stacked boxes of belongings into his new apartment.
“Thankfully I live downstairs,” he mumbled to himself after dropping the boxes off inside.

“Be careful!” Taehyung gasped, surprised by the strength the man possessed.
“I’ve got it, don’t worry,” the man called over his shoulder, teasing Taehyung by pretending to trip and laughing lightheartedly when the man’s eyes widened comically.

Taehyung’s heart thumped quickly in his chest as he looked over the young man’s face. His hair was a slightly faded purple, his eyes big and round.
“Th-thank you,” Taehyung stuttered with a sheepish grin. “I’m trying to get everything inside as quick as possible.”

Jungkook mirrored his smile, looking at Taehyung with a slight tilt of his head. “If she’s yours, there’s no doubt about her beauty,” he spoke.
Taehyung blushed, looking down as he nibbled on his lower lip. He had no idea what to say about that, so he just let out a small laugh.

“Well, I should get going,” Jungkook said, hiding his endearment towards Taehyung’s shyness. “I’m upstairs, directly above you, so if you need anything, don’t hesitate, okay?”

“That’s cool!” the girl exclaimed. “Can you punch a tree down?”

Jungkook’s heart beat in his chest quickly, excitement washing over him as butterflies awoke in his belly. “Okay, sure, I can do that,” he agreed with a smile. He turned, slipping into his shoes before leaving the apartment, letting the girl take his hand and lead him downstairs.

“You have a kid?” the purple-haired man asked, looking at the small bed he brought inside.
“Yes, a daughter, Jian,” Taehyung replied, unable to contain the smile that lit up his face. “My beautiful little girl.”

“I don’t think so, sweetheart. Ferrets are a lot of work,” he laughed. “Maybe, just maybe, we can get another type of pet sometime,” he offered as soon as she pouted, her face lighting up immediately.

The purple-haired man looked at the hand, smiling as he took it in his own. “Jungkook.”
Taehyung watched the man jump into the truck and stack up several boxes, carrying them towards the apartment in his arms.

“Yes, her mom blamed me for ‘ruining her life’ so she left Jian with me and went overseas,” Taehyung explained. “But we’ve done well.”
“Seems like you dodged a bullet. It takes two to make a baby, right? What happened between the two of you?” Jungkook asked.

“Good,” she began, kicking her feet in the backseat, “we had a substitute teacher and she was nice and she has two ferrets at home named Brutus and Julius and they’re brothers and they’re really soft she says,” the young girl rambled, using her palm to push hair out of her face.

Jungkook smiled, loving every bit of interaction he had seen between the father and daughter. His eyes lit up as he recalled something.
“So, was she telling the truth? You’re not seeing anyone?” he asked casually.

“What? No!” Taehyung replied, laughing in disbelief.

The next few days passed by in a mundane routine; Taehyung dropping Jian off at school, going home to organize the apartment, ordering in lunch, stuttering a greeting each time he met Jungkook at the mailboxes, picking up his daughter, ordering in dinner, and going to sleep.

Taehyung’s cheeks flushed a pretty pink as he laughed. “No, I’m not. I have no boyfriends at all, as she said.”

Taehyung nearly choked on his milk, shaking his head rapidly. “That makes it sound strange, Jian-ah! I’m a writer, I write children’s books,” he quickly explained.
“Where kids get into trouble and shrink?” Jungkook teased.

“How did you get everything inside? This stuff,” Jian started, kicking lightly at her iron bed frame, “is heavy!”

It was a repeating process that became comfortable, even if it was tiring. Jian noticed that any time the neighbors were brought up, even if it wasn’t Jungkook, her dad blushed brightly and smiled. She knew it was his crush that made him react that way, so she hatched up a plan.

Jungkook was about to get in bed when there was another knock, making him laugh to himself. “Now what?” he mused. He opened the door, looking down at the girl with a raised brow, a smirk on his lips.

Within an hour Jungkook had helped Taehyung bring everything from the truck into the apartment. The two of them sat on the couch together, the only piece of furniture that Taehyung had a place picked out for.

Jungkook nodded, seeming to consider it. “You had a kid young, and you stuck around to raise her. I respect that.”

“Jian! Where were you?” he questioned, a concerned authority in his voice.
“Jungkook-ssi is gonna make us breakfast!” she declared with a bright smile.

Taehyung laughed, shaking his head in amusement. “Maybe not a gorilla, Jian-ah,” he said. “Something like a cat, a dog, or a-”
“-a dinosaur!” she replied, excitedly bouncing in her seat.
Taehyung laughed again, finally parking and getting out, leading the young girl inside.

“I think Jianie here wants something home cooked for once,” Jungkook teased, making his way to the kitchen and looking in the refrigerator. “Don’t act like I don’t see you getting deliveries for all your meals,” he added.

He smiled warmly, internally cooing over the girl’s sweetness as he watched her play with the bear, its fur reminding him of the man upstairs.

He opened it, looking straight ahead before glancing down to where a young girl stood.
“Are you Jungkook?” Jian asked, a smile on her lips.

“Thank you!” she chimed happily, taking it and heading downstairs. She went into the apartment as quietly as possible, giggling to herself at her father’s light snoring.

“My daddy wanted to know if you had any eggs,” she explained.
“Sure,” Jungkook nodded, going into the kitchen to take out a few eggs, putting them in a bowl to give to the child. “Here you go.”

“Daddy’s not so strong,” Jian said, “but he’s really nice and he writes fun stories!”

They exchanged numbers before Jungkook left, leaving Taehyung to wash the dishes and put them away. He went down the hall and peeked into Jian’s room, smiling at her little sleeping body with an open book on her chest.

Saturday morning she got out of bed, just before seven, slipping into her shoes and walking quietly by a sleeping Taehyung to slip out the front door. She headed upstairs, furrowing her brows as she tried to check the apartments.

Jungkook chuckled from the stove. What an interesting morning, he thought to himself.
The three sat at the small dining table and ate their omelettes; Jungkook had also poured them milk.
Maybe Taehyung doesn’t like cooking much, he thought to himself.

“That sounds perfect,” Taehyung replied. “I can ask my brother to babysit and we can meet somewhere?”
“Sure! The bus comes to the stop by my gym at six, so I can meet you somewhere by seven for sure.”

This time, Jungkook didn’t bother to go back to bed, but instead took a seat on his couch, wondering what the guy downstairs was up to.
When Jian went back into the apartment, Taehyung was starting to stir, stretching on the couch.

Jungkook let out a surprised laugh. “Okay, sure,” he said, laughing to himself as he retrieved a pan and a few cooking utensils to give to the girl. “Here you go.”
“Thanks!” she exclaimed with a bright smile, giggling as she took the items from him and ran towards the stairs.

Taehyung got up, sliding onto a stool at the kitchen counter as he watched them together, heart melting into a puddle of love as he took in the sight of his newly completed family.

The gym was much closer than his brother’s house, so he was hoping that Jungkook wouldn’t mind going with him to drop her off. They arrived at the gym a little before six, Taehyung turning the car off and humming.
“Jian-ah, are you ready to spend the night with Uncle Jin?”

He tried to be subtle about inhaling him deeper but the purple-haired boy noticed it.
“I hope my shampoo isn’t offensive,” he said, furrowing his eyebrows.

“They’re really cool,” Jian began, extending her hands so that Jungkook could remove the boxing gloves. “Can you show me how to box sometime? I’m going to Uncle Jinie’s house and he’s ordering pizza and we’ll watch movies!” she exclaimed.

They immediately saw Jungkook, packing up his things and telling his coworkers he was going to be leaving. The purple-haired man looked up as one of his coworkers pointed at the duo who entered the gym, his mouth stretching into a wide smile.

He let out a sigh, the girl getting restless in the backseat. “Okay, okay,” he said, getting out of the car and taking her inside. I guess I am a little curious about where he works, he thought.

Taehyung smiled to himself, the scene was touching. Hearing Jian begin to giggle and seeing Jungkook smile, nose scrunched up and eyes nearly closed, his heart thumped wildly in his chest. I could get used to this, he decided.

“No problem! She’s precious.”

“I always loved reading, and it started from when I was a child. I decided to write books that would hopefully entice youngsters to start reading, too,” Taehyung answered.
