Emblems commission has stripped the state motto "L'etoile du Nord", French for “Star of the North" from the final seal design and replaced it with the Lakota "Mni Sota Makoce," a phrase meaning "Land Where the Waters Reflect the Clouds." It's where Minnesota gets its name.

None of the new MN flag design finalists feature a loon. But the top candidate for a new state seal is centered around the state bird. In any event, plenty more work to do. Judging by reaction to the picks, folks are gonna be unhappy no matter what!.

Commission voted 12-0 to advance these 6 designs. Member Aaron Wittnebel wasn't present for the vote. Said he had issues with choosing 6 instead of the 5 they originally planned.

Well, at the risk of distracting myself, I can tell you we will be waiting a while for word on St. Paul Wards 1 and 7. County election workers are hoping to wrap up reallocation by the evening, but it sounds like they're prepared to go late.

We’re multiple rounds into reallotment for Ward 1 though the end appears close. Anika Johnson continues to lead as bottom candidates get bumped off the list. We’ll have a winner sooner or later. Election folks weren’t lying when they said it’d take a while. This stared at 8 a.m.

MNGOP convention endorsement voting will remain electronic after delegates overwhelmingly supported in standing vote. Supporters said digital will speed up the convention and make it possible to endorse candidates for all offices by 6p Saturday.
