Our criminal justice system is the equivalent of when medicine used leaches

Americans will be like "Where I live is a very specific, unique part of the country with an amazing culture no other part of the country understands" and it looks like this:
Got pulled over in NH and after handing over license and registration he comes back and basically goes "look our system does not recognize Washington, DC as a real place that exists so I'm gonna have to just let you go with a warning" lmao 😅

Said this before but every week this guy uncovers $100k's and $millions of white collar crime in DC and our corrupt local news media hasn't run a single story - not a single one - about DC's raging white collar crime spree
NEW: DC fine dining restaurant Swahili Village and its executives will pay $526,973 to its workers and to the District for systematically stealing wages and tips from servers, hosts, runners, bussers, and bartenders.
Wage theft will not be tolerated in the District of Columbia.
We've been building nothing but cookie cutter sprawl for 70+ years in this country and now that we're finally starting to build cities up again these NIMBY armchair architects are here to shriek that "New developments are starting to look the same" ... 🤨
You've seen them: the boxy, mid-rise buildings with sans-serif fonts and vivid slabs of bright paneling. New developments are starting to look the same, raising fears that cities are losing their unique charm. But in a housing crisis, does that matter?
All the dogs were left overnight in the display case at Doozy Dogs on 14th St NW tonight (after midnight). With all the horrific news about negligent dog care in DC lately, this shouldn't be acceptable

Okay but every country in the world does this to every other country in the world. Chinese people don't call us "America" they call us "mei guo," etc.

All the ppl in the replies saying they hate protected bike lanes and *WANT* bikes in the car lane in drivers' way instead...huuuuuh!?
The bikes are now out of the way, that's good. Do y'all want like no sidewalks either, pedestrians in the road too? It doesn't make any sense! 🤯
Wow DC now has the most bikeshare trips per capita in the country 👀! No city punches above it's weight more, not even NYC - 11 times the population but only 8 times the ridership. DC is the bikeshare city of America 🚲👑!

Haha love it! And also a vacancy tax on unused luxury pickup truck beds. If you're really blue collar no worries no tax, but if you're only larping as one you gotta pay up $$ lol
DC has the most variety of cuisine and things to do on planet Earth for a city of 700,000 people, no city punches above its weight more, it's incredible 💪
Have learned from this tweet that apparently it really pisses off the DC crime reply guys when you post pictures of normal DCers calmly enjoying the city... 🤔

I can't get over this one like, we have a shit ton of pets but you can't bring even one bc then THAT would be one pet too many and also you're not equal to us in this egalitarian commune...🤯
The fact that the DC crime accounts cheerleaded crime going up but now actively DON'T cheerlead crime going way down tells you everything you need to know about their true motives 🚩🚩

I'm saying there's no place on earth that pronounces every other place the way the locals do. If you're saying we should be the first to try, sure, I'm certainly not against it. Though fwiw when I lived in China they gave me a Chinese name and it didn't bother me at all.

DC restaurateur Saied Azali and his business partner had one of their workers get killed by a car while walking on Columbia Rd across from their restaurant, and now they're opposing proven pedestrian safety improvements there calling them "BAD FOR BUSINESS" 🚩🚩💀💀
You get a transit leader who rides transit and you get the most improved system you've ever had, surprise surprise!
Take note folks, putting car commuters from the suburbs in charge of US transit agencies is the reason they're not good enough, this isn't rocket science.

This is a video of normal people crossing the street and the reporter is losing his mind, what in the world. Suburban streets are so dangerous nobody walks around them at all so I guess these suburbanites are shocked to see normal pedestrians... 🤔
U Street is nuts right now! This is near Vermont St. It appears police are trying to disperse large crowds. Sirens are blaring and the chopper is circling. Road is blocked, preventing buses from getting through. One officer told us, “Kids. There’s no accountability.”

Stadium Sports Bar & Smokehouse in Navy Yard announces closure due to the uptick in crime and the drastic reduction in the number of government workers returning to work in D.C.
I just published a review of an extraordinary 3 weeks of propaganda in the New York Times. I have been following the news closely for years, and I don't think I have ever seen such a coordinated series of articles across multiple reporters.
Wild how often DC speed cameras are painted as "predatory" by suburban drivers when it turns out irl not a single ticket (not one!) is given for going under 11mph over - they are all for reckless speeding, people going 40 in a 25 - the cameras aren't predatory, the drivers are 💀
With today's hearing on bills to curb dangerous driving, I want to highlight troubling data we received in pre-hearing questioning. Here are the numbers of speeding violations, which validate every resident’s experience with how common speeding is.

Every week this guy's uncovering another multi-million $$$$ robbery by the rich in DC and yet there's not a single news story about this upper class DC crime spree 🤔
NEW: We're suing five construction companies and labor brokers for cheating hundreds of DC workers out of wages and benefits in a widespread illegal worker misclassification scheme.
My office will always have workers’ backs and level the playing field for law-abiding businesses.
Every DCer who moves to the suburbs "because of safety," in reality sees their likelihood of death/injury immediately spike bc of cars.
But their likelihood of being outside near a poor person plummets and that's what safety FEELS like to them even though it's incorrect. Sad.
Public transit is framed as unsafe because of occasional homeless persons and a murder that happens once every couple years, often decades, yet every day its "5 killed in road rage", "pregnant woman killed in hit and run", "freeway shooting wounds baby", "speeding driver kills 3"

The dumbest thing about car culture is the way so many drivers blame everyone but themselves for the problems they cause.
Car traffic? "Someone else's fault!"
Speeding 15+ mph over? "The camera's fault!"
Cars blocking EMS? "It's the bikes!"
🤔💀
Thanks to the Yonge St bike lanes, this ambulance wasted 30 valuable seconds at a single intersection. There was no where for the cars to pull off to. There are dozens of intersections coming up. If it’s your family member waiting for a defibrillator, I can’t imagine….

The hill I will die on is that YIMBY is not a market-rate housing movement, it is literally an anti-NIMBY movement. That means yes to public housing, market rate housing, halfway houses, bus stops, etc. - everything misanthropes (NIMBYs) hate, we stand for. Yes in my back yard.
YIMBY means "yes in my back yard" to public housing, upzoning, market rate housing, bike lanes, bus lanes, drug treatment clinics, homeless shelters, half way houses, etc, etc. Yes in my back yard. Simple.
Just saw a clearly drunk guy stumble into his Mercedes near 18th and U, waiter ran out asking if he's sure he's okay to drive and he slurred "don't worry man if we wreck em we run" and took off...
This is car culture, a cult of death, ban most cars from cities.
We're now spending $50,000 every day to stop $88 of fare evasion... 🤔🚩
"New enhanced citations took effect on Monday, and resulted in 37 citations and five arrests"
Riders have to provide their ID, or name and address so the officer can issue a civil citation of up to $50. If they refuse, the fine could double and a person can even be arrested.
Remember folks, when they try to convince you the rich people paying $10M for the status of a 2,000 sq ft home in Georgetown will move to Gaithersburg if we raise their taxes by 500 bucks, you can just laugh at them. A millionaire tax is a great thing for DC.
I have long believed that our wealthiest residents should be asked do the most for those in need. We are adding progressivity to the property tax, which disproportionately burdens lower-income residents. These tax changes are necessary and put us on the right path.
It's crazy that one side of the debate is like "cars keep killing people and we should do something about it" and the other side is like "nah" and that's the entire debate
To be clear, this has never once happened before, it is not even an option you can book with Doozy Dogs. There is no water left, some dogs are clearly distressed, others sleeping on the piss mat. Obviously no one kenneled the dogs properly and it's not what customers payed for.
It's bad that DC's losing the money-making arena, will be even worse if our hapless mayor blows our entire budget on a money-losing NFL stadium boondoggle to "make up for it" (it won't). Let's not throw good money after bad.

Feels like uber's been a scam for a couple years now where it appears to be say 20 minutes faster than taking transit but then you wait 10 minutes only for it to cancel then wait 10 minutes again. Now it's even worse. Hope we keep just making transit better in DC.

If only car drivers followed the rules of the road, sadly many do not, and they kill 40,000 Americans every year while bikers kill zero Americans every year (seriously, look it up!)

10X as many people are moving through the bike lane in that video. And as an avid driver, now they're not biking in the car lane getting in the way of cars, thank god.
Everytime we propose a tiny protected bike lane to help keep DC familes safe we hear about how "dangerous" cyclists are from NIMBYs at local community hearings, but in reality all it ever is is private car drivers killing DCers over and over again endlessly endelssly 🚩🚩💀💀
An Audi driver struck 6 people waiting to get cars at a parking garage valet station (am guessing Georgetown Hospital?). One died. The other 5 have (so far) non-life threatening injuries.

Interesting what's put into context and what's not by local news:

-A spike in crime? "Sure crime's way down from several years ago but we don't remind you of that!"

NEW: Metro recorded over 331,000 train trips yesterday - it’s largest ridership day on the rails since the pandemic began. Keep in mind, that’s about half of where ridership was pre-pandemic when trips were regularly around 650,000 per day.

Ward 3 residents just voted for this bike lane in a landslide, now the (anti-democratic) DC elite want to overrule the will of the voters. Hopefully democracy and common sense (build the bike lane) will win out...
DC to NYC in 2hr 46min on the fast train versus 4 hrs driving is pretty great 🙌
But it would be the slow train in most countries, where high speed rail goes 200 mph and this trip would only take *one* hour! Modernize America 🇺🇸
