Fromsoft games have always been social, shared experiences. The collaboration has always been a core of their games, which is part of why they're ONLINE. Whether it's a guide, a forum post, or your buddy telling you about a secret they found, it all counts.
Lore hunting in Elden Ring is a roller coaster, because everyone basically goes "I rode in from heaven on a donkey to search for eggs and now all my friends are spiders, being a tarnished sure is hard" and they refuse to elaborate further.
I see we're tweeting about Elden Ring having no story again.
It does. It's just subtle. When you're used to games explicitly stating every detail and thought, it can seem that way, maybe. But that's a you problem, not an issue with the game. Get some literacy.
I love lore because you get to learn things like Radagon hated his red hair because it meant he was a giant, but Radahn and Rykard showed it off because it meant dad. 😭
No one said about Bloodborne DLC "Hey I'd love to fight a screaming newborn old man orphan wielding a placenta" so basically whatever they surprise us with in Elden Ring will probably be cool
SO BASICALLY YOU GO TO WEIRD ENGLAND AND THEY GIVE YOU BLOOD AND YOU BECOME A WEREWOLF HUNTER, BUT IT'S ACTUALLY MORE THAN THAT THERE'S A TWIST. IT'S ACTUALLY TENTACLE MONSTERS AND OLD GODS AND IT'S REALLY COOL, YOU WEAR COOL CLOTHES
I really do love the community around these games but goddamn Elden Ring fans, get it together. You're embarrassing us all with this gatekeeping nonsense
Boss kicking your ass? Just think of it as Miyazaki personally taking your hand and gently guiding you towards the massive world you can explore to get stronger
The attention to detail in Dark Souls 2 is next level, and I wish Fromsoft would bring this back.
Fume Knight enrages and enters phase 2 immediately if you wear Velstadt's helm into the boss fight. Because he hated Velstadt. It's a fun way to meld lore and mechanics.
The recent Elden Ring patch was not "nerfing pve for pvp's sake" it was rebalancing the game as a whole. Because it's one game.
Clearly things like Rivers of Blood were unbalanced, and Fromsoft told us so with 1.06.
Malenia destroyed a land and turned her half-brother into a corpse-eating zombie in her determination to rescue her kidnapped brother, but ever since has been content to sleep at the Haligtree roots. Why?
Unless she had achieved her goal, and found her brother after all.
Remember when Doom and Animal Crossing came out at the same time and we all just decided they were best friends? I miss that.
What media properties should do this?
God of War and Elden Ring are fundamentally different games. Both are/will be great.
The practice of comparing different things because they're coming out at around the same time needs to stop.
Not everyone is going to have my experience but what I always like to say is just TRY. I avoided FS games because I thought they were "just hard" and when I finally took the plunge I was obsessed. Regardless, not everyone is going to like every game. This will ALWAYS be true.
Elden Ring dlc is HARD! In NG+ a boss was taking me out in 3 hits and I was worried I couldn't do it.
But I switched up my gear, and suddenly that insurmountable challenge was doable.
THAT'S why I love these games. A bit of adaptation, a bit of practice, and you can beat anything
I once said I love NPC invaders in Dark Souls because they add variety, life and fun lore into the game, and was shocked at how many people say they hate them, same as human invaders.
Even completely offline, with no actual pvp, this topic provokes a lot of rage.
New based take: I want Fromsoft to make invasions mandatory in their next game. Next boss: invade 5 people and win at least 2, or you can't progress.
Embrace chaos.
Powerstancing is back, the best respec fromsoft has made, and a dedicated jump button. The open world feel is similar.
Oh, and actually having COLOR
And people complaining about the repetitive bosses must not have done Bloodborne chalice dungeons? Even that masterpiece has flaws.
Honestly some people will never be happy unless pvp is removed entirely, at which point co-op also will be too and every Fromsoft game will be Sekiro. 💀
One of the best things Elden Ring added is a respec system that allows you to change your stats 18 times per new game run.
A system, I may add, that is basically exactly like Dark Souls 2 respecs. 👀
Do people really have a problem with dropping items for others in Elden Ring, and consider it cheating?
This isn't a classic RPG, 'endgame' means nothing. You can get some of the best weapons in the game by running and picking them up in 20 minutes from starting.
