We have imminent domain, high taxation, and massive regulation. We know for sure at least some of what Elon says is true, backed by public data, after 9/11 we disappeared citizens for years before releasing them when we closed gitmo, no evidence ever found, we assassinate people with drones. There are different kinds of authoritarianism, and it's a spectrum. We started out much more Libertarian. Now, we can't even pass out food to the poor because of regulation or building houses for the homeless because of regulation. I'm not even communist. I'm a Libertarian Socialist. I'm not saying many authoritarian communist countries aren't worse. The CCP in the early days, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, evil mfrs. But Nazi Germany was an authoritarian capitalist country. Considering we enslaved 4 million people in our early history, you could argue we might be a tiny bit closer than we'd all like to admit. I'm glad we're not that bad anymore, but we have lots of room for improvement. Otherwise, what the heck is DOGE doing?
