Unfortunately, a horse I train suffered a career ending injury. The owner, had two options, pay the $10,000 surgery so the horse can live his days out in a paddock or euthanise him. The owner didn’t budge and paid up. These are the real people of racing.

Happy to announce I will be embarking on my own training career from Scone next month. It’s a big step, but one I’m going to enjoy. I’ll have 20 boxes with 1/4 acre yards, my own sand track, water-walker and treadmill, yet only a stones throw to the track.

I know twitter has become a platform for promotion and opinions. However, I implore everyone to watch this video and spread Subbie’s legacy. Please celebrate one of sports true heroes, we may never see a horse like him again.
Racing is mourning one of its favourites tonight with the passing of 1992 Melbourne Cup winner "Subzero".
While the beautiful grey will be remembered as a track legend - it was Subbie's career after racing that endeared him to so many.

Horse Racing staff are predominantly young people. Might it be time to invest in some research into what young staff want out of their jobs and what’s important to them? Understanding this will help recruitment and retention, but requires industry buy in.

They do this in USA and it tarnishes the brand. Seeing people racing in thongs and a singlet, doesn’t appeal to me. When people come to the races, they get an opportunity to wear their best attire at whatever price point that is and we all appreciate that.

Had a horse arrive that was struggling a bit in the city environment... found him a paddock buddy and now he hasn’t missed a grain. Horses are herd animals and sometimes taking them back to their instincts makes the difference.

We’ve had a great first year. Hard work, and a lot of learning but Rachel and I would like to thank all of our owners, staff, suppliers, vets and jockeys for their support. We finished with 23 wins with two wins at Moree to close out the year.

In 2016, I was privileged enough to spend 5 days helping some kids in Tajikistan. Their families would cook us meals they couldn’t afford, to show off their cultures. We were only 500km from Kabul. Sending my positivity to them and Afghans. Stay safe.

Just a thought...could we ensure horses quarantine for a period of time before the race (potentially 3 months), to ensure the imports are familiar with the Australian surfaces. We need to move forward together, and any amount of casualties is too many. RIP AVD.

Blue Tattoo was my second starter and ran an honest race, 2nd beaten a half head, first up on the heavy. Plenty of positive reinforcement for him. He lives to please and we’ll make sure he knows that he’s ran a great race.

Jack Newton was an important figure in my life. I was a big participant in his Junior Golf Foundation that nurtured myself and all my close friends. And his charity donations to Diabetes was always significant. He always gave me his full attention whenever we spoke. Rest easy.

I’ve always wondered why they don’t put more metro Saturday meets on in country towns during Winter. Communities love racing and would get good crowds. Tracks like Goulburn, Scone, Muswellbrook, Wagga, Canberra all fair tracks.
