No venues "allow" stage diving to my knowledge. Still happens at a lot of shows of this type. This is a truly tragic event, but there's just risk inherent to attending shows. Could have happened to anyone at any show and the band handled it very responsibly.

You can be paralyzed doing any kind of physical activity. People play football, mountain bike, do parkour, ride horses etc. People can and have been seriously hurt or killed doing all of those things. That won't be most people's experience, but it could be. Life is risky.

I think I'm going to lose my mind if I see one more person with no personal experience in the scene share that article again. It's so frustrating seeing people misunderstand everything from the prevalence of stage diving to the amount of money a band TE's size is making.

being a support band for bo has got to be so tough. so many people viewing you as just a mild annoyance to tolerate before the "real" show starts. I had such terrible second hand embarrassment at the one bo show I've been to cause people did not pass the vibe check during openers

Nearly every venue ever has a "no stage diving" policy. It's just to cover their asses legally, most don't actually attempt to stop moshing of any kind from taking place. This was just a really shitty accident that could have happened to anyone.

Sure, I guess I'm just not sure what you want to happen at this point. No one wanted Bird to sustain a life altering injury. The band is in close contact with the family, and it does not seem that they are going to take legal action against TE. Why continue the discourse?

I actually think there aren't enough albums that do this well. Too many feel like a collection of singles to me. I genuinely think the reason why TDOPOM is Bad Omens' most popular release is because it's a very cohesive listening experience, however you feel about BO aside.

Somebody putting it into words!! I totally feel this way! It sounds silly but concerts feel like the closest thing I've had to a religious experience. Definitely left a show or two with a straight up more positive outlook on humanity.

I love the alt music scene. I love moshing and stage diving. Most of the time they are quite safe and super fun, and I don't want people to come away from this believing that the very small risk of being seriously hurt you assume by participating is larger than it actually is.

I agree! Trophy Eyes is in close contact with the family so I'm assuming they've made the choice not to sue, but they could if they wanted 🤷🏻♀️ Bird's family has not spoken out against the band though. So I don't think there's any need to demonize the band for a freak accident.
