If you want to build a small and low cost all-sky camera, this is your best option. I've used it on my all sky camera before. Even after I swap it with OneIncheye, I'm still using it as my 3D printer camera, the tiny lens + wide FOV gives you a lot of flexibility.
Our first generation camera board is now on discount sale. it supports mipi 4 lane mode by solder jumper. Full size 60fps and 60fps in 2x2 binning mode. (physically possible the 120fps operation in 2x2 binning mode.) #raspberrypi #libcamera

After years in a outdoor box this LoRa gateway is finally retired. It is still working by the way, just that the antenna fell down and break in to two half so I decided to take it down. The rain has get in to the box a few times that causes most of the corrosion.

Got the board back - now I need to build the breakout board myself. This FPC connector is surprisingly fragile, it is hard to see on the photos but the plastic latch has broken in to two at the middle. I'm guessing the PCBA temp is causing plastic to degrade.

Fun fact - This is my first board designed with KiCad and move away from Eagle Cad. Driven by the fact 4-layer board in Eagle Cad needs crazy amount of subscription fee. That is probably the best decision I've made.

Here is the second opensource camera board I have using IMX585, I've pick the project name StarlightEye given that this is the first STARVIS 2 CMOS sensor from Sony that boosted its low light performance. Will have a blog post later.

Console Modding is probably one if not the most complex PCB projects you can have. OMFG this designer uses the exposed PCB internal layer as QFP lead frame. I can't imaging the cost.

After a couple of iterations - I think this project has finally stabilized. This is yet another RPI 4 Compute module Cluster, ideas from the "Cluster HAT Kit" made by 8086. With onboard Gigabit ETH Switch + USB Hub + Pico managing CM4 (USB boot ,.etc.). #RaspberryPi .🧵

So after a four try and error, I think the case is stable now. Long story short: The core issue designing the enclosure (for me) is that during the PCB layout there isn't much space at the first place such that I have buttons, encoders, connectors almost around the enclosure.

Allllllright, two new camera board: IMX585 and IMX294. I honestly not sure if IMX294 would work on RPI, given the CSI link speed is ~1.7Gbps with 4 lanes, but will see. If it works it will be the largest CMOS sensor in size (4/3) that can work with RPI directly. For IMX585 - I

RTL8261N (low cost 10GBE PHY) finally start shipping in mass quantity, 2024 will be the year for low cost 10GBE x 8 switches. (A lot of switch manufacture were pairing RTL9303 with 2.5GBE PHY even though it supports 10GBE). I'm going to grab a 4x2.5GBE + 2x10GBE first, not a lot

I'm been a happy user of their W5500 lineup so will see now it goes. Though I hope they can add IEEE1588 support and pack more passives into their RP2040 + W5500 SiP packages, it is kinda annoying to do the layout + pick and place so many 3R3 and 10nF caps.

Drive all the way back to finish this before the weekend ends - still count as PCBA weekend. IMX294 mini version! you can also see the package is even larger then the entire RPI camera V3 board. Now I need to finish the documentation and should be releasing the files soon™

So. I saw some 12MP 1" GS sensor (XGS12000) the other day on ebay and it is cheap and well documented enough to give it a try. But I guess they are sort of engineering samples, given that there is no laser part no markings on the package and the sh*tty protection glass.

Got a few decent micro SD cards for my RPI projects. I don't know why there aren't more SLC mode* or MLC mode* microSD cards, like who needs 64GB for boot drive anyways. *Basically they are still TLC flash but used as if it is SLC/MLC (2bit), or do similar to SSD with SLC cache

This - PCB manufacture should really start using pantone to control the soldermask if they are going to supply these kind of colors. I would be annoyed also if I opt with these kind of colors.
